Is the Dana 30 strong enough to support 35's?
I have had 35's on my d30 for two years with few issues. I do have to asses the u-joints before each trip. I have replaced my ujoint on the driver side twice and the passenger side once.
And yes, I do off road around 20 days a year.

all of this is NOT necessary to run 35" tires....trust me I'm all about overkill but seriously, unnecessary!....with all listed above you could feel safe running 37" tires
So whats like "the final answer" on this?
Alot of people seem to run 35s on the X's with the D30 front axles, because I am saving money right now to afford wheels and tires, I want to make sure I do everything the right way the first time. With a 4" lift and full set of arms, will this setup be fine for a while with the D30s, with say 90% time on road and 10% mild wheeling on trails, or should I consider beefing up the axle before I mount the 35s?
...
Also, I will be suffering with the 3.21 gears for a bit while I make up my mind between 4.88s and 5.13s... When I do regear, the D30 should be fine correct? Should I consider at a minimum axle sleeves or a cro-moly shaft?
which is better and how much will the new gears stress the axle, or will it actually make less stress for the axle?

Hello
JonesZJ... I think from what I have learned on this thread is that you are fine to run 35's on a D30, however I think first you are going to want to change the gears, and then add the evo gussets. The gears help retain take off power, and the gussets strengthen the axle and keep your 35's from towing in at the top. The other mods will also beef up your axle, but for what you seem to want... gussets and gears would probably be the least you could get away with....However, if you are having someone re do the gears... wouldn't it only make sense to strengthen the internals, and possibly add a locker while they are working on the axle? So save up a little extra and you will have a more capable 4x4 the 10% of the time you do go off road. oN THE OTHER HAND.... basically everyone has said not to run 37's on the D-30... and if you do, obviously you could be taking a chance. .... someone please correct me if I am wrong.
