Does a locker improve axle strength?
say i go with an arb or ox front locker (30 spline)...
1. would i buy the same 5.13 gearing as i would have without the locker?
2. are chromo 30 spline shafts available for the jk under these circumstances? Superior, 10Factory?
Thanks again everyone.

2. Yes

Lockers definitley do not add strength per say to the axle, but to the internals it can as stated above. I'm sure some of these guys running the Aussie locker, etc will pipe in and help you out on that D30 and what lockers you could use to match your cmoly shafts.
The following will enlighten you a little on differentials in general along with spider-gears..

The JK Rubicon lockers have 4 pinions (the red gears in the photo) for added strength.
All four gears in the center of the photo are spider gears, although I believe when most people refer to spider gears, they mean only the red ones in the photo. More accurately, the red gears are called pinions, and the gears on the axles are called side gears.

One more thought...
Adding a locker will definitely put moe stress on the other components and will be more prone to breaking if the compenents are not upgraded. There is no longer an easy escape (the open or spinning wheel) for built up energy when you have a locker. And yes, we have all heard the argument that one with a locker can take it easier with less wheel spin, but this does not hold true in many cases.
