Default Does a locker improve axle strength?

I am planning on "building" my front D30 to handle larger tires (37's-38's): chromo axle shafts, c-pillar gussets, and 5.13 gearing.

but from my research it seems that adding a locker would increase my spline count...

1. does a locker add any strength to my axle? if so, please explain.
2. will my chromo shafts be incompatible with a locker if i were to add the locker AFTER the chromo shafts. ie: different spline count axle shafts needed.
3. After "building" my D30 as explained above and also running 1310 driveshafts, i understand that my weakest point will now be my spider gears. what is that exactly and does a locker and/or regearing help?

Well, thanks in advance for any support or assistance. i really appreciate the members and info on this forum....

Sure it does,

For instance ARB Spider gears are made out of 300M which = very stong stuff

Factory spider gears are not the strongest thing in the world.

Have to agree with that second statement. When I had my regear done, the stock spider gears that came out of my JK (with less than 19K miles on them) were already showing severe wear... probably wouldn't have lasted until 30K miles, but it's possible I got a batch set from the factory?

Lockers definitley do not add strength per say to the axle, but to the internals it can as stated above. I'm sure some of these guys running the Aussie locker, etc will pipe in and help you out on that D30 and what lockers you could use to match your cmoly shafts.

The following will enlighten you a little on differentials in general along with spider-gears..

It will add strength to your gears - stronger shafts will add strength to your shafts and gussets will add strength to your " axle". No - the Locker in itself will not strengthen your "axle".

Yes it does. The locker replaces the entire carrier.
