5. Turn and hold the steering wheel one-half turn to the right (clockwise).

6. Press and hold the ESP OFF button for seven seconds.

7. Turn the steering wheel back to center, and turn and hold an additional one-half turn to the left (counterclockwise).

10. Press and hold the ESP OFF button for seven seconds.

11. Cycle the ignition key to OFF. After performing the ESP disable procedure correctly,
“ESP OFF” will be displayed in the odometer for approximately 12 seconds each time the ignition is moved to ON.
Repeating the ESP disable procedure will re-enable normal ESP operation.
I tried this on my 12 Rubi a bunch of times and can't get the 12 sec confirmation you speak of.

I'm a newbie here, and I was just curious why you would want to disable it completely?

Getting off the interstate into a ramp it would engage on me. Going up a hill it would come on. 2007's the steering wheel thing doesn't work.

Cuz it sucks. Won't let you freely spin tires to get thru mud and sand.. Also doesn't let you play and do donuts or powerslides in mud and snow

Default Esp

I have an '07 JK 2door 6spd manual and I was having the same problem on offramps . I don't know about the newer models but the ESP off button is only usable in 4WD not 2WD. To be able to disable and re-enable ESP you must take it to the dealer for 3 Flash downloads. After that it's a very simple procedure such as what has been described earlier. It works in 2WD as well as 4WD. Dealer charge $125.

I believe you...but slam the brakes real hard and see if the ABS kicks in. Lights on the dash indicates an issue. If it does not, then you know. Not that it matters. Isn't ABS optional still? Just a thought.
