Why does a simple question turn into a debate.

Goody, nobody asked for an opinion about warranty. And yes it's an opinion. You're legalese is no correctly applied to the real world. You clearly don't have an interest in the truth. What's more important to you is winning a debate. Your posts tell much more about you than they do reality. The only thing that I've learned from you is to never take my car to you for warranty service.

This debate comes up over and over. I have yet to hear directly from a customer who ever had a warranty issue because they relocated the EC. And what part would it void the warranty of?

A most of mine from another thread:

If anyone ever has a warranty issue with a dealer, as a result of relocating the evap can, PLEASE CALL ME. I've sold almost 500 kits. Never once heard of an issue with getting the warranty honored. The only time that a customer called was when the dealer repaired a hose that came with my kit and covered it under the Jeep warranty. The dealer should have sent the bill to me and I would have paid it.

In regards to skid vs relocation.

If you want an easy install, then skid. If you enjoy working on your Jeep, then relocate it.

If every inch of clearance counts, then relocate.

If you have more money than time, then skid. My kit is only $70 (plus some shipping) and less when you buy the steering stabilizer relo kit at the same time.

If you want a simple, cost-effective solution that only takes 5 minutes, go with the skid.

Equal number?

Show me the posts. I will follow up and find out what happened and report back.

jeepswag:
make that 501 kits, ordered mine earlier today.

This marks the first mod to the jk, please excuse my laziness, I know I am lagging........

Question about the install:

I am Linex'ing the tub, does it matter which I do first? I would like to install the relo kit when i am tearing everything apart for the new paint and the linex.

Default relocation of evap canister

I am a licensed California smog tech. If a vehicle came into my shop for a smog check and had the evap canister relocated, I would have to fail it. The law states that you cannot modify the smog system in any way unless it has a CARB sticker on it. I understand that the canister would function the same way but it is my license at stake. This is exactly like something the BAR would do to bust a smog tech.

Yup. Keep in mind too when it comes to the fuel tank and evap system, these relocation kits change the size of the system and that has an affect as well.

Hypothetically speaking, how would a fictional person on an imaginery JK completely remove said "Canister" and bypass the system all together?

Interesting. Is a visual inspection standard? Or would it be more of a if it failed smog then it is checked? I plan on keeping my Jeep for 10-15 years so I guess I could see it possibly being an issue one day. Although, technically, even a skid install is relocating it slightly.

Would you fail a vehicle for aftermarket intakes and mufflers, etc.?

I've always wondered if an imaginary vented gas cap wouldn't do the trick.

tension, tension, tension!!! --I would like to state for the record however, I learn so much from "these types" of threads. thru all of the bickering, and differences of opinion-it always seems to work out. and in the end, really, the truth and fact, always lie directly in between both sides. I do appreciate sitting back and observing, until a solution is at the very least, nearer. Seriously though fella's-there isnt a right or wrong here-everytime you, or anyone else who isnt a dealership ASE certified tech, loosen a bolt on these things-you've technically violated the very spirit of the warranty, or any implied coverages.--it comes down to your particular dealer, and their willingness to work with you, or apply the letter of the "law". I have the skid. of course, that means nothing. just my choice.-Good luck to all, and keep Jeepin!!!!!--p.s.-I work for a Jeep dealership-(17 yrs.)

I used the Die-Tech relocation kit, took about an hour. I went with this kit because it not only relocates it, it protects it as well! I did have to use a piece of rubber between the holding bracket and the canister as it did not secure it tightly. Maybe Jeep changed the evap for '09 models?
