So I'm going to be extending my breathers to my airbox and I was going to use the standard rubber 5/16 line that's in all the kits and writeups, but my autoparts stores are clean out. I talked to a guy at advance auto parts and he suggested using plain ol' vinyl tubing, just make sure to keep it from the engine and other hot parts. He said since mainly the breather is about venting and sucking in air it wouldn't be a big deal and he's heard of people doing it with clear tubing you get at home depot. What do y'all think? Is this a fail waiting to happen? I was thinking about getting a rubber hose for the engine compartment and then use vinyl tubing to connect all the stock breater lines together. Need some guidance as i'm planning to do this tomorrow. I want to reiterate that I'll be using all the stock breather tubes when I do this mod. I'll be using the vinyl tubing to connect all the stock hoses together.

Anyone? I'm mainly looking for people that have done this or tried this and decided not to. I don't really see it being a big problem as the plastic tubing can handle brake line fluid and various hot fluids like boiling water.

Fail waiting to happen. Those clear lines will crimp/fold when your axles are pushed up toward the body. Check out Lowes, they have air or fuel line available by the foot.

And, using 1 correct lenght hose vs. multiple connections with hoses is just one last thing to fail in water. I wouldn't want to have to keep checking the hose clamps for tightness

X2 on the fuel line. I did use plastic couplers like in WOL's writeup that sealed up fine though. Rather than going to the airbox for the front axle I ran the breather up the driver's side shock tower and across under the hood. Rear breather went right up a hole in the passenger rear wheel well and zipped up behind the tail light.

Thanks guys, ill definitely get the fuel line. I didn't think to look at lowes or hd for fuel line.

Y'all mentioned axle breathers, but what about tcase and tranny? Did y'all run those too? I'm planning on going to the airbox just incase I accidentally (or purposely) go deeper than I planned.

Just used my lunch to pick up the rubber hose, I got 15 feet of it cause that's all they had. It should be plenty seeing how I plan on using the stock stuff too. The were out of 5/16 connectors so I picked up 3/8" connectors. I figure I can get that rubber to stretch another 1/16th of an inch

Good plan. No reason to cut corners with this project. The line is readily available at most auto part stores.

I picked up mine at a local tracker supply store. They have a good selection of "cut your own" fuel lines in all sizes.

Glad you did not cheap out....you should pick up some 5/16 metal clamps to tighten the breather tube hose to the diff/transfer case and tranny nipples as it can be prone to pop off during off-roading.
