Firestone Destination???
Has anyone heard of the Firestone Destination M/T? I was shopping on TireRack.com and the Firestones are listed as #1 in the off road category with great reviews. I've never heard of anyone running these tires. I was also looking at the Goodyear MT/R's any input or suggestions?

Don't know about those Firestones, but on the subject of the Goodyears, I had terrible wear with them. I had them on my '04 Rubi, and man, by 20k miles there were balder than Tely Savalas on prom night.
A lot of the reviews on tire rack and other sites give them great reviews as far as wear, but my set sucked big time. I liked the tires, but damn, I need somethin that'll last a lil longer...

Heres a review from an off road website:
Firestone left no stone unturned in their quest to build a superb off-road tire, virtually from scratch, and the Destination MT is a solid performer from the get-go. For example, one look at the tread pattern, the over-the-shoulder lug design and the newly added Rim Guard rib, told me that this tire was going to provide the grip required for our off-road needs.
The Destination series tires also feature Dura-Loc construction that combines 3 full polyester body plies, 2 high tensile steel cord belts and a full nylon cap ply for amazing strength and durability. Firestone's exclusive UNI-T technology was also added to improve wet handling and braking. Interestingly enough, the Destination M/T's also come pre-pinned for studs for even more traction in icy, winter conditions. The thought of screwing in set of steel studs and going rock crawling has crossed my mind more than once. My only concern is the forest fire I could start with the sparks flying!
We first tested the new Firestones in the tough Arizona rocks. We aired the tires down to 10 PSI to gain more contact patch and test the flexibility of the carcass. The M/T's tread pattern works well in the rocks, providing enough open voids for the biting edges of the lugs to grab rocks and prevent slippage. Arizona rock crawling lends itself to allot of sidewall driving and the over-the-shoulder lug design really worked well, providing extra traction while the tire was rolled over onto its sidewall. The sidewall proved to be every bit as tough as Firestone claimed, thwarting all of our attempts to puncture it on the sharp rocks. In the mud we found that the Destination M/T provided good self-cleaning characteristics, quickly ridding itself of the offensive goo. Compared to other mud terrain tires, the Destination M/T cleared itself much more quickly with less tire spin. On the road with 28 PSI, the Destination M/T's are very quiet and well behaved. They don't howl like many off road tires, and braking and steering is very stable and predictable. After 2 months of testing the new Firestone Destination M/T has proven that it can stand up to all we can throw at it, and it bests many of its competitors off-road. It looks like Firestone has hit a homerun with the new Destination M/T.

I'm running these tires in a 285/70/17 and so far I really like them! We had a huge rain storm the other night so I thought that I would go out and play and test these tires. Amazing, even in 4" of rain they never sliped once! I got these primarily because of its winter abilities so that will have to be put to the test at that time. The local tire shop installed them with 40psi which made them very rough (as would be predicted) but I dropped the pressure down to 30psi and they are much better. I am still playing with the pressures to find that "sweet spot". as far as pricing, I found that they were hands down cheaper than both BFG M/T's and the Toyo's.
my brother in law runs the Destinations, in a 33x12.50R15 flavor on his 86 Laredo.
They look good and he says they perform well but for the $$ you gotta drop on em, he says next time he will just go with BFG Muds or Pro Comps. Here are some pics of his CJ with the Final Destinations...

they pull well but of course...shit happens...

Guys I ran two sets on my Xterra. I averaged about 47,000 miles on the first set and had to replace them after I got to busy to rotate them I then replaced them and traded the Xterra in on my Rubicon and had no complaints about them. They last great of you rotate them. Great on road with low noise and really good offroad. I reccomend a set if you want them . When they first came out they offered 30,000 mile warrenty and that was unheard of. To many people took advantage of it and didn't rotate properly and they took that away.

I wouldn't never buy Firestone tires again. They are junk and belong on old 77 Firebirds if that. They are made with inferior materials and aren't up to any kind of off road use with sidewalls made from silly putty and tread made from playdough. Buy something decent like B.F. Goodrich Mud Terrains, Nitto Mud Grapplers, Pitbull Rockers or Super Swamper Boggers/Thornbird. You don't on top of Firestones when they disinigrate on the freeway coming back from mudding.

I don't particularly care for firestones but from what I've seen they are a hella lot better than damn thornbirds.
