Floor Jack?
Well Josh, since people cheap out on jacks, then it stands to reason they cheap out on stands, right? Since you can't agree, then suppose you're already under the vehicle when a stand fails and causes the vehicle to fall. Suppose then that cheap jack decides to fail when someone tries to save your bull headed crushed ass? I've read about just that in our local newspaper. That's not really something to agree or disagree on. It's just plain common sense. See, you thought you were bein cute and readin between the lines...but I NEVER said anything about using a jack to SUPPORT weight. Not once.

I know I have been looking at these too, and I am having a hard time finding one that will be able to lift the Jeep high enough to put on a 4" lift and 37" tires. I am looking at getting an Nth lift that comes with the spacer, and just putting the money into nicer jack stands.
just because you get a cheap jack doesnt mean you get cheap stands.
i would never trust my life to a jack. to stands yes.
there are about 4 cheap jacks in my garage that cound in the event my jeep fell on me be used to pick it up.
also i put an 8x8 under the frame.
go cheap as you can on the jack IMO as long as it does the job. just make sure you have good stands

(I do understand that you're so vehement about this because you're trying to prevent an unnecessary injury/death, but people are going to go on thinking what they think).

Easy Redneck.
Save my bull headed crushed ass...remember a couple weeks ago when you flipped the f out on another member, got your post deleted, and was ready to quit the forum, and I tried to coax you back.....Was I bull headed then? Here is the link to remind you.

How quickly we forget.
I was never trying to be cute there guy, just putting my 2 cents in. If you dont like, simply click the back button on your browser. Opinions are everywhere.
If you jack a vehicle up and use 2 stands, like you should, whats the chance of both of them failing. I know, I know, its happened, and people have also died of stranger things. The thread starter wanted opinions on, lets call, affordable jacks. Lets leave it at that.

While Redneck may have been a little over enthusiastic with his post, I agree in principle 100%. If you're going to spend thousands of dollars on mods and tools, spend a little extra and get a good floor jack and decent jack stands. The super deluxe Craftsman socket set won't save your life or prevent serious injury, but a good floor jack and stands just might.
Getting off my soapbox now...
I picked up a 3-1/2 ton AC-Delco jack at O'Reilly for $180. It goes up to 21" and has the fast pump action. Just having the fast pump was worth the extra money. I also talked to a couple mechanic friends and they said that cheaper jacks tend to blow out their seals if you put a load on them on a regular basis. (Meaning lifting a truck instead of a Civic)
I also picked up the heavy duty AC-Delco stands for $40 when I got the jack. They are thicker gauge than regular stands, extend out to 25" and have a bigger footprint. By the way, not meaning to sound like a jerk, but it only takes one stand to fail to cause a major accident. If one stand collapses, then the jeep will tilt and cause the other stand to kick out.

Back to the top:
I need to buy a lift for a weekend project on the jeep:
I've been looking at the craftsman 3ton jack, with the high jack stands, but the reviews seem horrible!
I saw the Kobalt 3 ton kit (with jack stands) but I'm not sure they're tall enough for a lift install....
Anybody have any recommendations??? I think it's too late to order one online...

That's the stupidest crap I've ever heard of. I use a Lincoln, by the way. Under 300 bucks. Cheaper than a trip to the emergency room.
