You need to remember to leave SOME of the rake. Why you ask? Caster. By leaving in a little of the rake, your caster angle isn't decreased quite as much.

I can speak 1st hand experience on this. I started with the 2.5" Teraflex BB all around. Once I added a front bumper and winch (@ 180 lbs) the front end fell and it felt nose heavy to drive down the road. I called Northridge4x4 and ended up with OME 2.5" HD front coils. There are several different load ratings for new coils (stock @ 80 lbs; HD @150 lbs; extreme HD @ 300 lbs; etc). Because they are higher load ratings, they don't give as much.

When I replace the stock coils and BB spacers with the 2.5" HD coils, I got nearly 3.5" of lift. HOW?!? When I set the vehicle weight back down on the coils, there was virtually zero give, whereas the stock coils will give some.

You will get a slightly harsher ride, but you get a little extra lift too. And the off road performance is great.

I have been running the 2.5" spacers in the rear for about 8 months now, and with the OME coils up front, my JK has nearly Zero rake...looks mean. I just bought the rear coils this week to match because I finally found the money for a rear bumper and got it ordered.

The Old Man Emu front coil numbers that I have are OME619, and the rear coils are OME618.

I am also replacing the shocks/extensions with longer shocks since I am now at about a 3.5" lift instead of 2.5" which was what the shock extensions were designed for.

So i have the teraflex BB as well with shocks! im gettin the money together for a front bumper and winch but have heard alot of problems with the sag in the front!
so i was thinking ill just get new coils from teraflex! but if i dont wanna replace my shocks which coils do i get the 2.5 inch?
then if i do get new coils is it a big deal to just do the front switch or do i have to do all four? i guess im askin will it look really different???

OK - so two questions based on all the great feedback.

Current Setup: BB 2.0" lift all around with stock bumpers and hard top

New:
Front bumper/winch: 180 pounds
Rear bumper: 100 pounds

Could I take out the 2" BB and replace with new coil springs. I am thinking I can do the medium duty in the rear and heavy duty in the front. I do pull a boat but the tongue weight is only 130 pounds and it is usually with the soft top which will ofset the weight. Very rarely have anyone in the back seat or additional weight. Would I be better off with Heavy duty all around? (Medium 90 pound, heavy 180-200 pound)

Question two is whether this will cause stress or other problems as it was noted above the springs will give additional lift due to the increased resistance which may result in more than a 2" net increase in lift with the coil over the spacer lift.

And frankly just don't want to deal with that issue. But I do want to switch to coils for added flex.

I know RE advertises "designed to provide the best in ride quality"... Wondering if anyone can confirm or deny this? I don't mind spending the dollars IF the ride is going to be at least as good as stock- preferably better than stock.

Yeah- I tend to be annoying about road quality. But I spend much more time on the road than off the road. So I prefer to have somewhat good road manners.
You sound like the perfect candidate for adjustable shocks.. Good luck.

this is not true at all, If you get too stiff springs, no shocks would fix that ,choose your springs wisely, ask around. springs will give you either a smoth ride, or a harsh one, and there is no fix for that.

Correct me if I am wrong....

Shocks just limit the bouncing of the spring - they will not add to the softness or harshness of the ride. They just keep the vehicle from continually bouncing on the springs......

why is it that it cost more to get just the springs then it does to get the whole 2.5 spring lift kit from the teraflex website

Springs should run $300 (front and rear) - what is the difference between just getting the springs vs. the complete lift kit? Any benefit to the entire kit?
