Default Garage clearance

Hello all,

Very new to all of this, and I am looking at picking up a sahara unlimited in the next couple days. I am planning on doing some simple modifications such as lift and larger tires and wheels. My only concern is that my garage clearance is only 6'6. What would you suggest is the largest combination of lift and tires i could do?

Cheers

Suggest you measure. I'm running a full traction 3" premium plus lift on BFG km2 35's.

My garage is 6'6" as well and my soft top only clears the door by about 1.5 inches.

One variable here is the actual height you get from your lift... I got about 4.5" (w off road bumpers, winch, 35" spare, and hi-lift).

Measure...

If I were you, I would do the relatively simple math. Measure the amount of clearance that you have between the top of the Wrangler you buy (they vary a little from year to year and model to model) and your garage. Once you know how much room you have to play with, do the modifications. DO NOT take a 2 or 3 or (whatever) lift you are considering to mean that will be your final result. I put a 2.5" lift on mine and it raised it 4 inches.

OK, totally just kidding but...

Someone could design a mod using cheap starter motors to compress the suspension enough to fit through the door.

Just sayin...

Just a quick note. Mind about racks, if you ever plan to add one. They may not play well with your garage if you add high lifts. ;-)

I have seen that done with small ATV winches.

Just get a cover and park it on the driveway if you can't fit it in... Watch out for low clearance parking decks as well!!!

Default 83" high opening

My setup is little different than the standard coil only lift, the coilovers I run give me almost an unlimited amount of adjustability. Currently my highest point measured on the jeep is the top of the windshield frame and since I run a hardtop or bikini top (which are flush with windshield), they are about two inches lower than a softop, which gives me some spare room above. My Jeep measured at the top of the windshield is 81", my garage opening is 83". My rig is on 40" MTR/K's and the coilovers are set to the equivalent of a 4" lift (or so).

My JK on 40"s

for reference, the yellow JK is on Teraflex 4" short arm and 37" BFG KM2's and is the same height as mine
