Gears that last??
Very re-assuring so far...
I'm slowly being convinced that ending up stranded isn't such a likely scenario... I just need to find someone I can trust!!
Anyone else?
Thanks for all the input so far guys..

I've had mine in for at least 20k miles with no problems whatsoever. Bought mine from Northridge, but I'm at work and can't remember the brand. In addition to the quality of the part, I believe the quality of the installation has a great deal to do with the longevity. This is not something I would invite my buddy Bubba (who did this once before about ten years ago) over to help me with on a Saturday afternoon for a couple of six packs and hot wings while we did the install.
It's awesome to have so many people on one thread that have had long term positive experiences with their gear swap... I started out thinking that I would do it either way, but now I can't rest assured that there is hope!
Again, thanks for all the input so far guys...

Every jeeper could use a hand in the garage by a guy named Bubba.... Wait a minute...
I'm not sure I would want a guy named Bubba doing my gear swap either!

I doubt seriously that any reputable gear manufacturer is putting out defective gears. You either know how to hob gears, or you don't. Most of us know that its the installation and setup of the gears that is most important in getting a set to last. Its possible, some nare-the-well mechanics blame the gears when rationalizing premature failures to unsuspecting customers. So, its vital that you only use a shop and mechanic that a) has done many, and can point you to happy customers with 30k+ miles of proof, 2) offer a warranty past 12 months or 12k miles, and iii) know Jeep products, not just Fords and Chevys.
