I just did a heavy rock trail and my crappy sliders bent up and hit the body of my jkur , bent it and the pinch seam along the underside of the jeep.They bolted to the pinch seam. Now I'm looking for some good sliders I can use as a step , and bolt or weld to the frame. Please don't post up here and tell me yours are the best when they bolt to the body or pinch seam. I live by the Rubicon trail , have been wheeling for many years , been to Moab , Alaska , all over , and own another jeep , so again , don't try to school me on anything that bolts to the body , because as far as I'm concerned , either you don't wheel hard enough to bend them up , or you don't wheel big rocks. I've really only found one that I kind of like so far and that is made by Lod. They bolt to the frame and look like they may hold up for awhile . My question is do you know of any other manufactures that make a slider that bolts or welds to the frame? I 'm also not interested in any kind of skins that screw , or bolt to the body under the doors because with enough force they will also bend the body in , and when you take them off , their is a crease along where the leading edge of the skins are laying against the body . Thanks for any info. you guys may provide ! By the way I have looked at Evo's rock rails and am inquiring about as to how many places they weld to the frame . They also don't have much of a step. By the way , I don't need a step , but my wife does !

 

Check out evo's sliders. You can weld or bolt them on. When I can afford to, that's what I'm going with. Well those or the LoD's. they both look like they are very functional and strong

Why for a while? Once installed, they're not going anywhere. I wouldn't use any slider other than the one that attaches to the frame. All other ones are toys and a complete joke... for the reasons you mentioned.

 

ACE makes weld on sliders and I believe Shrockworks bolts/welds to the frame as well. I think there's a writeup on Project-JK you can check out on the Shrockworks.

 

You should look into white knuckle offload sliders....I bolted mine to the frame but you can also weld them if you want... They are really solid I've hit em pretty hard on trees and rocks and still no damage.... Also they are really well priced. Plus if your willing to paint them yourself like I did you can save yourself even more

 

evo sliders are hands down the toughest and sickest looking, but i'm not sure how well they work as a step. ace makes some affordable versions that weld on the frame too.

 

LOD are proven. Have been out for a very long time and I haven't heard one bad thing about damage caused by them on the trail. Mine are bolted on but I have friends that actually welded theirs because their skid plate bolts that hold the sliders on underneath were wrecked so welding fixed that. Mine have been on for almost 3 years now and I wheel mostly rock stuff. they are the only things I trust on my Rubi. And my wife loves the step

I'd love to see an EVO vs LOD strenght test. I can't claim one is tougher than the other but if you breal an LOD slider, you have bigger issues on your hands.

 

These are weld on only, Both 4 door and two door weld onto the frame at the threee mounting locations

The EVO MFG sliders, have been trail tested on EVO1 at King of the Hammers two years in a row (3 this year), Ultimate Adventures, JK experience. Little Sluice, Not to mention multiple runs at Rubicon and Johnsonvalley for non events. I really doubt any other production slider has been put through this much abuse.

 

The OP is looking for frame mounted sliders that can be used as a step. My point was that putting aside EVO vs. LOD, the LOD's are not going to break unless you are completely destroying your Jeep, in which case, sliders are probably the least of your concern at that point. You better hope you invested in a real roll cage!

And they have a step.

 

Get EVO and be done with it.

There is enough of a step to work, but they don't stick out far enough to be a problem.
