You better hope you invested in a real roll cage!

And they have a step.
thats cool, I'm putting my two cents in since you asked about a strength test

No worries! I'm just glad this isn't another body vs. frame mounted discussion! I do think the bolt on vs. weld on should be discussed though. My friends that are a bit more hardcore than me swear by weld on as the only way since its the "strongest". There aren't a lot of weld on options out there...maybe because people are afraid to weld, don't know how or don't want to pay someone to do it. But....most other frame mounted sliders (and some body ones like PSC) require a ton of labor. Hell, my LOD's included hours of drilling and tapping holes. Not fun!!

ACE offers both a bolt-on and a weld-on solution (to the frame!). The weld-on version has a more aggressive angle, but doesn't allow you to use Rubi rails as well. The bolt-on version has a less aggressive angle, but it does allow you to use the Rubi rails as well.

I love my ACE sliders... they're rock solid.

If bolt on was stronger, we would have made them bolt on... But its not

Can't really use Evo's as a step with the top of the rail being just under the door frame. That being said, get Evo rails and a stirrup step for your wife to get in. Or get a taller wife.

Chris can you chime in here, I've seen some EVO sliders which were angled outward and were very usable as a step. Is this an option?

Great post dahreno!
I'm making a wish list up, now that I'm all out of warranty. Your comments about body-attached rails answered a few questions/concerns that I had. The rest of the posts are helping me fill in the gaps too. Thanks all!

Also curious on this cause I am about to pull the trigger on some sliders and leaning mainly toward EVO but also want to use them as a step.

Don't waste your money on anything else, just go ahead and spend the extra dollar and buy the EVO sliders they are by far the best!!!!!

Build your own. If welding isn't a problem for you then designing and fabbing some up shouldn't be that big of a problem. That, or beg Evo to shift their design out a bit before fixing the sliders to the mounting rails. They make their own stuff in house I think, so a few questions and few extra coins seems worth it to get what you want.
