Ditto on the Optima, always had good luck with them. Waiting for my stock battery to take a dump to by a yellow top. I have heard the Odyssey is a great battery also.

The winch will definitely put extra stress on the battery however the factory battery is good enough until you need to replace it. We have our winch, OBA, lights, CB, and numerous other changing devices running off the factory battery and still no problems. When we are using the all of those components we keep the engine running and when the winch is really working hard we bring the RPM up a bit to help the battery and prevent overloading the charging system while sitting there at idle.

Both the Optima and Odyssey batteries are good high quality batteries and will assist with the added electrical accessories we all rely on. One of the nicest features of these batteries is that they are both Dry Cell batteries, as opposed to the typical lead acid battery. Over working a lead acid battery will result in battery acid boiling out the top and spilling which makes a mess and causes rust and corrosion issues. The down side to the dry cell battery is that if you let it completely die it is more difficult to bring back to life, but it you keep them charged all the time they last and perform well for the life of the battery.

That's what you should do. Unless you're doing a lot of long pulls, you'll be fine. I'm running the stock battery and haven't had any problems.

On the stock battery after two good pulls, starting on the 3rd the battery light came on, I was using the throttle also so the engine was revving. I suggest getting a dual battery setup & possibly a high output alternator if you are going to be using the winch much.

A single deep cycle battery and the factory alternator, as long as it is working properly are normally sufficient...

We remember that clearly!!

If the battery is old then yes you will have trouble but only two or three years won't be an issue.

We gotta wheel together again!
