Help with Muffler... Throaty Sound
Hi 07Rubi2dr,
Thanks for the directions to your video clip.
The sound you have is getting pretty close to what I am imagining. I know that I'll be tearing the tip(s) up, so I would prefer to go with a single discharge, and with the muffler tucked between the axles. I was looking at the FlowMasters earlier this week, and if I remember correctly, there are different configurations for the exhaust from the muffler.
I have also read a little about the FlowMaster 40 and the FlowMaster 50, with the 50 being just slightly quieter than the 40. Did you by any chance look at those before you bought your 80?
Thanks again for sharing your thoughts and video.
Jeff

I am just going to cut the tips off so they are under the bumper. I did look into the 40 and 50 series, but ended up going with the 80, but i cant seem to remember why...i think the 50 was to quite, and the 40 sounded a bit ricer to me. something a long those lines. lemme know if you have any more questions.
The throatiest sound out there is the Straightpipe exhaust. It's not a true straightpipe, more like a cat-back straightpipe. It's also the cheapest.

I also like this setup because there is no muffler to bang up and they configured the pipe in a way so that it has excellent clearance.

I've heard from some people on here that it's not legal. I had a muffler shop remove the muffler (it slides off pretty much without cutting) and they just added a short pipe end to the existing pipe and angled it down and tucked it high to keep it away from rocks. If I get a ticket or don't pass emissions or something then I'll just go with a flowmaster or magnaflow or something similar. For the time being though I'm really happy with it!
The SRT-4's got away with having a nice stock growl without having the normal whiny sound that a normal 4 cylinder (side from boxer engines of course) has, by having 3 straight through resonators and no baffle muffler involved. As long as they are resonators, I dont think you should see much of an increase in backpressure.
I just got the Flowmaster 40 on yesterday...They did a great job with the welding,It sounds really good, Nice and Throaty, Loud enough to get the sooped up pickups out your face.I was going to get the Gibson dual but lots of review say it sounds Ricer, alot like a car, and it also gets rid of some low end torque. Glad i went with the Flowmaster 40. I just dont like how they put the muffler tip under the backside of my bumper, I know im gonna smash it soon. but when that happens im gonna put the tip going out the passenger side behind the back wheel

Thats the best sounding exhaust I have heard yet. I am just wondering how much louder it will be on a 2dr, as the exhaust is shorter. I may just have to pull the muffler off some day and see how it sounds.
