I have the slack problem in the center of the steering. The 2014 Jeep JK will wander left and right trying to fall into the ruts in the road and I am constantly moving the wheel trying to compensate for it. I have replaced EVERY component of the front end...except the axle itself. New 6" Rough County lift, Rough Country sway bar disconnects, Rough Country front driveshaft, Rough Country track bar, Terra Flex drag link and tie rod, and a reman steering box all less than 500 miles cumulative. Many other mods, but those are the ones that matter for this topic of conversation. Originally we tightened the gear box twice. That took a considerable amount of slack, but not all of it. I replaced the box and now I still have slack in the steering. We have not attempted to tighten this "new" box, but curious for some input on the subject. Oh and the adjustment increments on the steering box bolt should be "about" 1/8th of a turn per adjustment. However, if you over tighten the box you could lose return to center on your steering. It does not have to be adjusted on a bench, you can do it in the vehicle. Something else I ran into is the "rebuild" on the gear may not have included replacing the hard parts in the box. It seems most rebuilds consist of bearing and seal replacements unless there is catastrophic failure. This could very well be the problem with mine, but I'm really tired of just emptying every pocket.

I had the same issues turned out to the only part I hadn't replaced the rear trac-bar. I had an old one from the lift kit that was originally on the jeep from 2007 in 2017 I upgraded everything to metalcloke except that tracbar. You can see the play in the steering just having someone sitting in the driver's seat with the engine running and watch the steering linkages while they turn it back and forth. That is what threw me off was I didn't see any play or any linkage moving that was lose. It sucked driving down the highway was a white-knuckle experience when 18-wheel trucks blow past you weaving all over.
