Hemi prices
Whats needed for a conversion? I have done alot of them and most are just the engine, wiring and computer, and engine mounts. I'm not for sure on the JK's but I thought they used the same tranny and transfer cases. I'm not sure on the tranny and case but all you should need is the engine, wiring and mounts for a V-8 and sometimes even the mounts are correct for the swap, Chevy 4.3 is one example in a direct swap. Anyways, I'm going the cheaper route and install myself, its so high to have someone do it for you because the going rate here is $45 and hour.

Do the prices you posted include the wiring?, Probably not but sometimes places do include it or offer it.

mc I am in oz to I have thought about doing this myself, might even be worth checking with some of those car dealers that specialise in importing american cars, I know there are some on the gold coast and sunshine coast in qld, keep me posted with how you go

Don't make me repley to that because I'd be lying to you...lol. I just got that price from a speed shop I have dealt with alot in the past, and they charge $45 and hour. I would say that most places are between 45 and $55 and hour but as for dealers I'm really not for sure. I live in a state where the cost of living is cheaper than others are but I'm sure Arkansas may not be the cheapest...lol. My cousin moved to Cali and its ALOT higher. I'm a FireFighter and a guy on here had said that they start out at $55 grand a year there and within 4 to 7 years you can be over a 100 grand salary a year, thats great in all but a $600,000 house is HUGE here, like most never see the inside of one. I like it here because its a cheaper living state. As for the dealer rate I'm not sure but I'd say its probably half of what your states 115 rate is.

Thanks alot, wasn't sure on the tranny because of the chevys I've worked on. Chevys tend to be easier built because of their interchangable parts. I always expect a radiator because bigger engines heat different and need extra cooling. I'm want to do a swap in this when warrenty and money allow and like knowing what I need, so I appreciate it.
Here's a question that may help us all, or thoughs wanting to do theirselves because moneys tight and harder to come by these days. Maybe someone can help on what engines and years are a direct swap. I have a buddy that works at the dealer here in my city and he said that only some years of engines can be swapped, not engine itself, but year model of the wiring and computer I guess. I'm new to this computer crap but if there are some things different I'd like to know. I would hate to buy an engine out of a pickup and not need the wiring because I need a SRT-8's wiring instead and wiring and computers can run into the 1000s. I'm wanting the 5.7 hemi but how about others wanting a 6.1 or 4.7?

Paid $2800. for a brand new 5.7 delivered. $600. for a 545RFE tranny with 27 miles on it from a junk yard. $70. for Alternator $25. ps pump $50. for AC compressor. $85. for new Flex plate. $100 for new B&M tranny cooler Still trying to decide whether to wait for the AEV conversion kit or buy the rest of the goodies from other sources. Wiring harness, computer, engine/ tranny mounts and radiator can be had for around $2400. I'm thinking after all the other misc stuff that will be needed, I will be in the $7000. to $ 8000. range total doing it all myself. Not that much more than the super charger route, with better performance.
Motor wise my understanding is you want a motor from a car, not the truck due to the accessory placement on the front of the engine. The wire harness on your donor engine does not matter since the harness has to be replaced anyway. 2005 and newer for the years

That's good info. Do you mind telling me where you found this? I wanna start collecting parts for my swap and just want to read up as much as I can before I start buying stuff.
Ok, thanks, I didn't know if it was the engine or something to do with the computers that mattered in the swap.

That's what I'm thinking, I just want to buy stuff here and there and let it sit until I can start doing the swap, because parts are high.
