We use the winch on almost every outing down here. You are not pushing the limits if you are not using yours!

I don't know how else you'd change a tire back on the trails if you are running 35's with a 4" lift. On one of the last trips out one of the guys used his hi-lift when one of the coil springs popped out. Might as well not carry a spare tire if you don't have at least one hi-lift among the group.

Looks nice and I like the look, it just worries me having that much of a heavy item so high up....do I hear projectile in an accident.

My jack is used quite often. The key is to have it lubed really well as you'll run into problems especially when it's like -10 Deg C.

I understand the hi-lift is heavy but so are alot of other parts that are BOLTED onto your jeep, its bolted to the hood and bolted to the hood mount, shouldnt be a problem specially with grade 8 bolts

I agree it would be fine up there and I love the look, I just can't bring myself to spend $150 for 2 brackets! I am sure I will though...

Hey you should really check out the mod on this forum (forget where the thread is) that details the making of this mount....

Why spend $150 when you can make your own for a fraction of the price... And it looked very good - does anyone know which thread I'm talking about?

dont know the thread but someone I guess will have it saved....its not 2 seperate brackets though, its one piece with a black rail type piece connecting both parts that mount to hinge and the bracket that holds the hi-lift or even a shovel.

I think this write-up was one rail also with the same style of mounts -

The person who wrote it up had pictures of a shovel and axe (not at the same time), but you could fit the hi-lift also

Check out this link... http://www.4wd.com/productdetails.aspx?partID=41258
for the rampage hi-lift mount that works off the rear gate hinge. Looks decent and I hope so cause I just ordered it. Will let you know how it is if and when i get it (backordered) I think this is more practical than having that large hunk of steel mounted on the hood IMHO.

Does anyone know if either/both of these accommodate a lock to secure the jack?
