My bump steer and DW are gone! I hope I don't jynx myself saying that, but so far so good. I'd first like to thank everyone for helping me out by supplying me with the solutions to my possible culprits. I'd also like to thank everyone for dealing with my various whinning threads Thank you!
Bump Steer: Just as Planman pointed out, my drag link, where it connected to the knuckle, would pop out when the wheel was at 2 o'clock and pop back in when the wheel was at 10 o'clock. It wasn't a significant pop out, but it was noticeable. After replacing my drag link with a new factory drag link, the bump steer virtually went away. Any remaining minor bumpsteer I believe was the cause of my trackbar...
Death Wobble (DW): Sure enough, the trackbar was the primary cause of my death wobble incidents. The bushings weren't the best, but overall I think it was the design and/or material of the trackbar. My trackbar would ever-so-slightly bend when turning the wheel. It was very noticeable when I had someone shake the steering wheel back and forth as if reinacting a DW. To fix this I replaced my JKS with the Teraflex Monster Forged. That thing is heavy. A beast. I don't mean to dismiss JKS as a company that produces poor products because they don't! Just for my Jeep and the components I have on it, the Teraflex trackbar is what I needed in the first place.
Again, thank you all. Hopefully, my DW and bump steer will never be an issue again.
Changed out the drag link. The bump steer was just a little noticeable, but not bad. Sure enough, I am driving home from work today, hit a pothole with my right tire and the Jeep death wobbles. WTF!? A legitimate death wobble. I know the feeling, and it was DW.
Solutions, anyone? I am just about ready to put my old coils and spacers back on in order to save myself the stress of driving my Jeep, which is also my DD.
I have had the same results, once I installed my flip kit. I too would like to know the fix to the DW and bump steer.
There has to be a few optical illusions going on in those pictures (surely TR not bent like that)! That does indeed look like a drop TB bracket, and it looks like the DL is factory mounted on both ends. Looks like angles are fighting each other.
The trackbar and draglink are supposed to be roughly parallel to each other. Drawing straight lines from mounting hole to hole is an easy way to see their relation to each other.
Orange = Draglink
Red = Previous position of trackbar
Yellow = New position of trackbar
Orange and Red were parallel = No bumpsteer
Orange and yellow are NOT parallel = which is causing the new and improved handling characteristics.
When a Draglink Flip / High Steer / Drop Pitman is installed, you move one end of BOTH of those bars in order to keep them parallel to each other. While adding that bracket may have helped to center the axle, it caused more problems than it solved. You need to either relocate one end of the draglink to get them parallel again (add a drop pitman, probably. But be sure to research this so you can read all the negative reviews...), or remove that bracket and add an adjustable trackbar to center the axle.
That jeep is dancing! Did you feel that you needed to brace the sector shaft to begin with?
Most of us JK owners prefer to raise the TB and DL at the axle side rather than frame side (with drop brackets and drop pitmen arms) as it's a bit more optimal when it comes to body roll. If you want to keep your current setup, look at a drop pitman arm as nthinuf mentions. That will lower your DL to match the TB angle, ALTHOUGH, I don't think you will find any of us speaking highly of drop pitman arms. You're kind of between a rock and a hard spot. I think your best option is to scrap what you have in that brace and drop TB bracket as hard as that might be to swallow as wasted money and time. That is just my opinion though.
