How does a V8 swap affect everything else?
We have many Hemi swaps in Reno, that are legal their. I do not know about LS swaps in the Reno area, but my understanding is the same year or newer law, also it has to be a light duty engine.
Now in California, the law is same year or newer, light duty engines and the trans is part of the smog Equipment. Also the federal law is that the Jeep has to be out of emissions warranty and that is 8 years or 80,000 miles, so we can get a new emissions label.
We have passed many LS Jeeps in Cal.
We are tiring to make our LS kit easier and faster to install, with a high quality in our parts!

Any clue if a Salvage vehicle is different for the 8 yr 80K requirement
I know the mfg smog warranty is null and void on a salvage vehicle so curious if it's a loop hole for an LS swap for a JK with less than 80K miles
Sorry The 8 year and 80K still stands, for salvage Jeeps. Now we have put a LS in a JK and it was from Reno, we also took the Jeep to the Cal. referee and got a new emissions label for Cal. and Reno let go threw their inspection and now the Jeep is legal in Nevada. California is the only state that issue a new emissions label.
Like they said if it is good in California it is good in Nevada, California has the highest standards and we have pass them all, our next step is to get our swap threw CARB. So then they will be legal every where and no need for the Referee, we have been working on it for awhile and we have one of the Best Hemi computers out their and now we are working on the LS stuff and making it all legal.
This takes a lot of time and money.

Seems like 5:13's with only 35" tires might be a bit much with an LS, at least on the highway.
And you would probably need a big brake kit to even hold it still at idle while in 4-lo on your Rubi
. Also in 4-lo you would need to be very gentle running the stock axles.
Finally, while Michigan may not have very clean air I will breath some smog in order to register and plate about anything I want to bolt together.

OP - i had the woeful 3.8 chrysler engine + 4sp auto, and tried to help it with 4.88's.
dont waste your money doing a re-gear, esp to 5.13's. live with the existing limitations, save money do it right the first time....unlike me.
I did the LS engine + 6L80 transmission with Motech. with 4.88's i was ~2300 rpm @ 70mph. Not good.
i just finished a new front axle and regear to 4.10, which Motech said was ideal for my 35's and 5.3

I completely disagree with this statement unless of course the LS swap is coming soon (next year or so?) I went to 5.13's on 35's with mine yesterday and so far it is a 100% different animal. I went from 3.73's with stock tires to 33's to 35's and now to 5.13's and the jeep runs better and is easier to get down the highway than with the stock tires and 3.73's. im not sure how it will affect fuel mileage realistically but it shows to be getting better mileage than before on 33's and 3.73's

I should have qualified it more by his time table. but the 5.13's with the 5.3 ls & 6L80 trans wouldn't be good for highway speeds. i'm sure the 5.13's would work fine with his 3.8. I did 4.88's with that setup and was better than stock for sure. i just should have saved money and done re-gear 1x, instead i've done twice now.
