Yep, both pictures were photoshopped in fact....your can a mild "fog" around the bottoms of the wheels.....

I don't blame them though, its easier to show your product that way than drive hundreds of miles.....plus it just looks sharp.

I love this rack. At 300 LBS capacity this is somethng we could really use....no drilling, and still has a huge capacity.

Nice work Gobi.

I emailed them and here is their reply:

"Hello Brian, thank you for your interest in GOBI racks. The production version of this rack was just released last week. We haven’t even updated our web site yet. (we are working on a new one).

The rack is available for both the 2door and 4door JK’s. The rack is a complete bolt on application and does not require any drilling. The rack uses factory locations for the front support. The rear support mounts back around the bumper (not to the bumper) and attaches to the frame. You can remove the freedom panels without hinging or removing the rack. To remove the entire Jeep top, the rack hinges back out of the way. Our racks our epoxy undercoated and powder coated for durability. The rack retails at $1599 for the 2 door and $1699 for the 4 door. That price includes shipping to the lower 48 states.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Thank you,

Tim Greenwald

It's a very nice looking rack but I don't like that the usable space is only a fraction of the surface on top. I wish the usable surface spanned the whole rack.

Comparing the Wilderness Rack to this one:
- Both claim a 300lbs capacity
- Wilderness rack usable surface spans the whole top while this one is only a fraction
- Wilderness rack requires drilling to install while this one doesn't
- Wilderness has bars for a bottom while this one has a mesh
- Both accomodate for lowering a soft top and removing hard top from pannels

I don't like these that mount to the body, prefer to mount on rear bumper, love the ladder but it looks close to the shell for using your feet, guess it's more of a handhold. Overall though it looks cool.

Looks nice, but that half-ladder on the back is kind of silly. It looks like you would need to step up on the bumper to get close to using it. I stepped on my stock rear bumper, and it crumpled like a can of cheap beer. Piece of crap (the stock rear bumper, that is). If you had a nice heavy-duty after-market rear bumper, then maybe it would be useful. I have to admit though, it does look pretty slick.

I think so too. Now I just have to figure out how to pay for one.

I like the look too, but i am kinda also interested in the FUNCTION. I plan to install a third row seat at some point which will eliminate cargo space... hence a roof rack.

Default Gobi Rack

I have been speaking with Gobi and plan a trip to their manufacturing facility soon since I live in Colorado and they are in Denver (Commerce City). I also have been speaking with a current customer who has the 4 dr version installed that lives in Canada to get some user feedback. With the price I want to be sure I am getting everything I expect and everything they are advertising. They do have one of the best looking racks on the market but functionality is important along with durability. When I spoke with Gobi on the phone they told me they could extend the basket floor to the front of the rack to increase the floor area and usability. Hope this helps someone and I will post any new news I get.
