Driving a Jeep. You must have missed the Prius lot when you bought yours. The difference between 15 mpg and 17 mpg is just 2. Same as it is between 27 mpg and 29 mpg. It just seems worse when you're starting from a lower point. My point is, you really don't save enough money on fuel to matter.

Any history of tire changes? What gears are you using? It could be elevation, since Fort Drum is high elevation.

My father has a AIRaid CAI with Gibson split dual on his Rubicon Unlimited (4.10 gears) and he shifts at 3,000 rpm and gets about 17mpg highway and 19 city.

There's many variables. Maybe the oil is too think for the colder weather, maybe the gas is watered down? Try Sunoco or some higher brand gasoline and see what happens?

I am due for an oil change. I am about 400 miles over.

I dont want to cry over it. I drive a Jeep and when buying it I knew what i was going to be getting, but i dont understand the change for nothing. I could understand if I chnaged tires, gears ect.

Aw. I was just throwing some ideas to consider. And yeah, its a Jeep... they've never been good with mileage ha. I just think its all those catalytic converters choking up our engines (do not remove them though. :p)

Try resetting your ECU? Battery negative disconnect and hold the brake for 20 seconds and reconnect. Your ECU might relearn and be better. I noticed this helped my previous Jeep XJ, since it was originally owned by someone in low elevation areas in PA. Anyone else chime in on this please?

Easy to understand; look under your Jeep, 2 solid axles, 2 diff., 2 big DS, big tires, 4000 lbs of metal and aerodynamic like a brick

your milage can go down from dirty oil and dirty air filter.

but if you are calculating your milage from the dash thingy, then it might be stuck. press and hold till it flashes and resets. that could be your whole problem and your gas milage never changed, it just displayed wrong.

I've noticed that if I am leaving my jeep sit longer without moving, (like we all typically do when it is colder or at least should) that the computer is still calculating mpg while sitting still. That, combined with winter blend fuel, and I always lose 1.5 to 2 mpg during the winter months. If you reset the mpg readout and sit there while the jeep is running you can watch it go down well below 10 and still dropping on my jeep.
