Lange Quick Mirror II Question
#11
I agree completely. My Jeep hood is pock-marked by almost tennis ball-sized hail stones. Had it occurred on the trail, I'd leave it be and have a heck of a story to tell. But, it was just parked in front of the house when the storm hit. So I'm in the market for a fix.
I did already ding one of my fenders moving a old computer. Haven't told my wife about that one yet...
The big issue with this one is if the metal-on-metal scratches it up, I can't take it off it I don't like it (for whatever reason).

Well, I'll make one more post in this thread just to give it closure for the next person searching on a similar topic...
I emailed Quadratec on a Sunday night. Didn't hear anything all week. Finally, 6 days later I sent a follow up. They did reply to that, asking for the exact part number off of the box. I sent that the same evening, and didn't hear another thing from them.
Finally, I just said "screw it" and put the dang mirror on the Jeep - the weather was nice and I wanted to get the doors off. I used the original windshield bolts and a thin piece of rubber I had laying around to prevent scratching.
Some thoughts about the mirror: It does more-or-less what it says. I can leave the block attached to the windshield bracket and swap the mirror on and off easy enough. But I do have the two issues talked about above.
Vibration. Enough to be noticeable and slightly distracting at 40-60, but not enough to be useless. I can live with this.
Whistling. Loud, annoying, and about to drive me crazy. I've tried adjusting the angle, but no luck. I'll try to caulk the edge next - I agree that's the most likely cause.
So, it's a Jeep, and a certain amount of rattles, squeaks, etc, are expected. I mean how quiet can it be with the top down and 4 doors off? But that high-pitched squeak, ouch!
But I would not buy it again and would not recommend it. I feel like I paid a premium price for a mirror - $60 + shipping - and expected it to "just work". Good directions (my didn't even show a JK), correct parts (my screws were shorter than the originals and silver, not black like the bracket and mirror), but mainly no !#!#@$ whistling.
If I wanted to cut my own rubber gasket, caulk the edges of the mirror, try to figure out if the screws would hold, etc, I would have just bought a frickin' Harley mirror.
In fact, that's exactly what I should have done. It's more in the Jeep spirit anyway. The only drawback would be I'd have to do something else if I get rock doors for the front.
As for Quadratec, they've seen the last of my business. I've already made another purchase from a different sponsor of this site.
I bet I could have gotten better results from them if I had called instead of email, but if you advertise email support, you better actually provide it. I'm probably being a little stubborn, maybe I should call, but really, I just don't care. They got my money, ignored my questions, so I'll take my business elsewhere. That was my first purchase for my Jeep. It wasn't my last. They could have had the rest if the customer service was there. Their loss, not mine. Maybe I should have contacted Lange directly - they probably care about their product more than Quadratec. Oh well, too late now.
Thanks for everybody who took the time to answer my questions in this thread. It is much appreciated. I hope the above helps somebody else in the future.

Does anybody who has these mirrors also have the Bestop two-piece soft doors?
Currently have I have RuggedRidge relocation brackets to move my stock mirrors to the windshield hinge but with the top half of the soft doors on I can't see the right mirror (I can't see much of it with the hard door). I was wondering how this mirror works with the soft doors both in terms of visibility and in terms of door opening function (will I have to re-adjust the mirror every time I open the door?).
I have heard the complaints about noise, vibration and the mirror not holding its position. Somehow, me being an engineer makes those items not enough info!
Thanks!

I recently ordered the same mirror. After reading the instructions and realizing I really need the passenger side more than anything - I returned it to Quadratec and bought the Outlaw Mirror set instead. Easy to install right on the door hinges and come as a pair.
So, I bought a Lange Quick Mirror II - the one that mounts on the door - from Quadratec.
This is for my 08 JK 4-door.
I haven't mounted it yet, because I have a couple of questions / concerns.
First, by putting the bracket on, my windshield screws effectively be 1/4 inch shorter, because that's the thickness of the bracket. Do I need to worry that will weaken the connection between the body and the windshield?
The kit included screws, but they are even shorter than the stock torx bolts. I thought I'd just pick up a couple of new, longer bolts, but 10 auto parts and hardward stores later, nobody carries them. (Yes, I could probably dig up a couple of non-torx, but I was on a quest...)
Second, should I be worried about scratching up my paint between the bracket and the windshield? I guess it would only matter if I took it off, but still, it's a brand new Jeep. I'd hate to scratch it up by doing something stupid. I thought about putting a thin bit of rubber between the bracket and the body, but now I just lost another 1/8 " of screw.
Anybody have one of these than can offer some mounting advice?
Thanks!

i have these mirrors. They are crap. I took the plastic handle off of them and used a pair of channel locks to tighten them down well enough so the wind doesnt dislodge them. As for the whistle i ran electrical tape up and down the rubber to dodge the air. After all of that they finally are tolerable. See in the summer i leave the soft doors on full time. But NO i would not recommend them. I was just stupid and got both at the same time. After all that fuss i dont mind them now. Forget those stupid plastic wheels. Tear them off put some torque on those screws then push it back on.
