Let's talk winches for a minute...
Everyone has the best in their opinion so just buy the one that makes you happy and it will be the best. The expencive winches have a faster retreive speed so it just depends on how fast you want to get unstuck. If you can't get replacement parts it's a disposable winch.
I think that's true for a lot of things. So, with that in mind, what are some things you all do NOT like about your winches? (specify make/model so if anyone's got big bones to pick, I can steer clear of that).
Really its just best to research and get user feedback on products, then decide what is best for you
Where better place than a forum full of Jeep guys?Similar questions about winches have been asked but in different ways, i.e. "what winch should I buy" versus "what do the features really mean --and are they useful?". I'd rather get feedback here than a place like eBay where the crowd is a lot less Jeep-focused.
The robo winch I just don't like the box on top and the slow speed... I have no complaints about my Warn
I'm probably getting too granular, but what is it about winch speed? They're supposed to go slow, right? Or--is that what a 'competition' winch is actually built for, to pull you out as quick as possible? If you're in a tricky situation it seems like a slow winch would be your best friend.
The largest differences will be duty cycle and speed. I've seen some cheap ones with very short duty cycles which can be bad if you have a tricky recovery. Speed is more about your patience.
The two tend to swap places in cost friendly winches, being fast or higher duty cycle. Pricier winches will be made to go faster and longer. These are generalizations and not a set condition for winch price :p

Seriously, Warn is the only one to make a winch in the US?
