Did you ever stretch the cable on the winch? Spool it up tight and neat? Just like a fishing reel, you don't maintain how the line is on there, it'll let you know..

Looks like photobucket is giving me crap about exceeding my storage usage I will spool it up tight and give it a try and try to get pics up soon looks like some type of fuse or relay that connects to the battery

You attach one side to the positive battery terminal and put the positive winch cable on the other side of the bridge with a nut and bolt. If you have an lp8500, get a cover for it, the motor on mine was solid rust and would not work after only 3 months (rain water only, never submerged)

If you don't know already they are circuit breakers. They are an over current device. They open if too much electricity flows though and then reset when they cool. It protects your winch motor from overheating and wiring/battery from a dead short.

So yes you need it installed. And yes it works without it but you have no protection.

Note: The reason there is three of them is because one is to small for the amount of current and if they just used one big one it would be physically to large, which would not be good. And the bus bars are hot (electrically) not the housing of the breakers.

If you are wondering electricity will flow equally through all three or very close. When even on gets to hot from 1/3 power going through it it will open and the other two will follow asap cause then you have 1/2 the power going through each.

And in the OP your other problem is you need a new cable. The cable is to stiff and is acting like a spring. When take the winch out of gear you are releasing the stored energy in the cable. You can either live with it or upgrade.

Toymaster thanks a lot for the info I have the breaker installed now, and you explained exactly how my cable reacts its annoying even time I get it out gear it spools out on its own time for some new cable I guess
