Default LOD bumper install problems

I installed the Full Width LOD Rear Bumper with the Door Linked Tire Carrier.

5 minutes into the install, I dropped the bumper on my big toe. If you want to know what extreme acute pain feels like I highly suggest you try this one day.

First, it was impossible to align. It was so tight that I could not get both sides to line up with the holes. I tried using jacks, brute force, rubber hammer. I actually had to use the winch with the line going around a tree wrapped around the rear of the bumper to get the thing pulled in. I was totally impressed with the winch. LOL

I'm also faced with a problem about alignment with the holes for the bolts that go through the cross member. On the side that requires no drilling, I'm going to have to cut a piece of the bumper because the bolt doesn't follow through all the way. Would you make this cut or just leave the bolt out?

The other problem I have are parts missing. The grease zerk, door link rod and spacers were nowhere to be found. I'll be calling LOD tomorrow and will hopefully have the parts by Friday. I had to tie the tire carrier to the door plate.

Oh and my toe is purple and throbbing like a Warner Bros Cartoon.

Sorry about your big toe... Hopefully it will be okay in a few days.

I contacted customer support via email one evening and they replied first thing the next day. They were prompt, courteous and provided the support I needed.

I am sure you will have the same experience.

Good luck!!

SO far their CS has been great. Just a bit bummed as you can imagine. What re your thoughts on my issue about cutting the bumper to fit the one bolt? WOUld you cut it or leave the crossmember bolt off?

Well if I understand what you are saying, I wouldn't see an issue cutting the bumper to fit. Post a pic so we can decide make an educated guess!!

I installed the full width on mine, but not the linked one though. I only had the rear cross member problem you have. I just drilled a different hole for the bolt, I didn't cut the bumper, because I didn't want it to ruin the powder-coat and rust, it worked out just fine of me. And I'd call LoD about your missing parts. I ordered their Full width rear tire carrier and mid width front with the bolt on skid plate all at the same time. I kept calling back just to make sure they were sending everything I needed because the front bumper and skid came 4 weeks ahead of the rear, and the actual tire-carrier piece was shipped separate of the bumper, and all the hardware for mounting BOTH bumpers came with a completely different shipment.

All in all, 4 shipments to get all my stuff, but they sent me what they said they would from the beginning, and their sales rep Chris is very helpful.

What he said. If all your doing is trying to line up a hole on the crossmember then drill your own hole. Hit the hole with a little black paint (I used spray paint on a q-tip to take care of a hole I had to drill on my crash bar when I installed my LoD armor-lite on the front).

Maybe a difference between a '07-'11? I had no problems front or rear. All parts were in the kits too. The rear bumper was a snug fit, but a nudge with a dead-blow was all that was needed.

No problems with my shorty. Measure twice, cut once before drilling into the bumper.

If its your toe nail use a hot paper clip to release the pressure.

LOL - I was once told this once before and thought is was an insane idea. Until I was in so much pain that the thought is releasing the pressure was greater than the pain of doing it. In the end it wasnt that bad but the relief was exactly what i needed. Im not there yet. Im going to lose this toe nail but the swelling is in the knuckle of the toe and not really under the nail.

Great ideas about drilling a new hole. I dont want to screw with the coating. Some came off near the tire carrier bar so I need to touch that up.
Are thiose cross member bolt really necessary?

ALl I have to say is thank god for the winch. There was nothing else around that would have got this bumper on.

You can mount the bumper just fine without them, they were the last thing to go on my install of the rear because i forgot about them.

The only thing I foresee a problem being is one of two things. Either you have some slight alignment issues(idk because yours is the linked t/c), or you'd have problems whenever you try to tow something, since the bolts provide a little more strength to the mounting in the middle of the bumper for the hitch...
