Need Tire Advice
Late next week I'll be having a 3" lift installed on my 2011 JKU. After that I'll be heading to the wheel/tire store. Any help with the following questions would be appreciated:
1) I'm looking at Black Rock Viper 900B wheels. Anyone have any bad experience with Black Rock wheels?
2) I'd like to go with 34" tires (give or take). What brands and models would you recommend? My jeep will be used 90% of the time as a daily commuter. The remaining 10% will be easy-to-moderate off-roading, no rock crawling, at least not at this point in time. Gas mileage isnt nearly as important to me as general ride, wear, and stability on the road. Snow and ice driving are also a concern (at least they will be in a few months). I want an aggressive looking tire but not at the expense of being a reasonable street tire.
Suggestions?
I've been told that there are several tires that should not be installed on a JKU due to ride/stability issues (shimmy, etc). I was told that Goodyear Wranglers and BFG's are not a good idea. Is this true?
Thanks!

I think you'll get a lot of recommendations for Goodyear Duratracs. They are supposedly great on road, off road, and in snow. They are considered all terrains but look like a mild side walled mud terrain.
Check em out!!

Literally tons of people on this forum are running BFGs. I don't have any shimmy or what not. Remember that ANY mud tire will be louder than street tires. Duratracs, BFG A/T, or the like.
I bought Duratracs as I wanted a decent ride but some of the benefits of a MT.
They also are a great jack of all trades and since I will be trekking from FL to NC mountains in the winters to see my folks, I figured the good snow traction would help.
Also they run pretty true to size unlike the BFGs.
Only negative is that they are limited production if you can find them. GY planned the production of that tire poorly.

I think it was the Goodyear Wranglers, rather than the BFG's, in the 34-35" range that I was cautioned against.

In my above post I am not dogging the BFGs...they are fantastic tires. Just like my Duratracs.
Mickey Thompson ATZ is worth a look. Exceptional on the pavement and good off road.
BUT, If you think there is going to be alot mud when you do wheel...
Duratrac's are arguably the best "hybrid" to date.
