Never had a Winch
in Winches. Their prices start @ $479 for a 8000# Winch. They are also offering 2-3.5" free Wireless Foglights
($130) right now with any Winch purchase. www.Quadratec.com
Synthetic is lighter, stronger in some cases, takes a little more cleaning if you get it gunked up good, where as steel you can just kind of hose off. I like synthetic because it is a lot safer and easier to handle than steel braided cable. I'm sure you will see all sorts of combinations on the forums and will find one you like.
Thought I would throw my .02 in.
There are a lot of good winches out there these days at some incredible prices. For example, you can buy a good one through Harbor Freight for under $300, etc.
However, Warn is by far the most reputable out of them all. They are more expensive, but they will last. Not to mention, for what it is worth, their customer service is top-notched.
Last winter I decided to rebuild my Warn M8000 (it was working fine, but was creeping up on 10 years old) and they bent over backward to help me, even sending me free parts to help with the rebuild.
Regarding synthetic v. steel line, I think the only issue with synthetic (besides cost) is that some guys have broken the line if it was rubbing on a rock, etc., while they were trying to winch out.
Best of luck!

Thanks for the replys I got overloaded with the daily life and wasn't able to respond to all your comments.
But I think I found a winch I Like:
Warn VR10000s
Attachment 238812
I was told that the synthetic rope would be lighter and help keep my lift
Any thoughts

Let me begin by saying that I have never in my life winched a Jeep.....however.....I have worked on power lines for over 30 years and have winched a few (lol) vehicles in and out of tight spots.....the Warn winch is tops....I now have one on my company truck, which is a Ford F-250....The winch is a 16,000 lb Warn winch.....you would not even believe some of the things that we do with my winch....the main thing when winching is winch safety.....I have a personal friend that literally lost half of his head while winching a very large truck in a right of way. He had to re-learn everything.....walking, talking, all of it.....he did recover, but it took a long time.....he was in the worst of positions, in between the vehicles....so anytime you winch a vehicle the first priority HAS to be safety....this is not something that you just have....safety is a learned thing....years of training....so if you plan on winching, make sure that someone with you is experienced.

Thanks. if its one thing I am taught in the military thats safety. I really wanted a warn M series but way out of my budget. I think for as much wheeling I do I can save the money and go with a SB 10K LBS I dont want to use it but like what the majority say its there for confidence pice of mind.
