Default New Idea!

I was just outside tinkering in the jeep and thought of this. I think I might get hardtop and cutthe sides and rear panels off making a full hard safari top. The rear would attach under the front two pieces and on the rear corners, fab up some screw set up similar to the two knobs under the soundbar. Anybody else thought of or tried this?

Phew! That's a lot of dough all to hack it up! But, you can be the first to do so....just be sure to post pics.

I'd be curious if it would maintain it's structural rigidity, but would certainly like to see what you come up with.

Wow! Now that would be radical. I think you would be the first to try this.

I hope you get it right the first time. That would be a lot of money to throw away if you messed up. It might be a better Idea to try to build a mould and make one out of fiberglass on your own. I've seen it done with motorcycle bodywork, but I've never done it myself. Good luck.

Default eeehh...

i dunno about everyone else but my hard top attaches via 6 torx screws to the body of the jeep. If you cut out the sides arent you cutting out the only attachment points that the back has. I should mention i have the 3 piece hard top with freedom tops. I think this a great idea, but there is a better solution than hacking up a perfectly good hard top.

I don't see why you wouldn't just buy some heavy-duty canvas material and stretch it to fit, creating a soft-top safari cover. I think it'd be a lot more forgiving! Or, if it HAS to be hard-top style, then why not use wood or fiberglass as others have suggested?

Oh, and for the price, I think you'd come out a LOT cheaper just buying a pre-made safari top...
