New Idea!
If you dont like it then stop reading. This will work, and it will be nice. I love getting new posts, but if you have nothing to add, then go away! Thank you Rubimon for your suggestions. I have layed out a frame based off the factory top. Just be patient, this is going to be good. I might even patent the idea that way bestop can buy me out later. LOL!!! Its a "pretty" blue print.

with your Idea, maybe when its all said and done it might be worth doing
or even purchasing it. I guess we will find out when you post pics.
It sounds like you're familiar with 'glas, so just a reminder that you could borrow from cedar strip building techniques. Also, have you considered 'glassing rear supports right into the top? It seems like aluminum uprights could come down and attach to the rear rollbar down bars. You could use aluminum tubing with flattened ends. If you do that, you could attach the upright to the rollbar with a chain link fence poll mount (I've seen this used for highlift mounting before). Also, consider angle struts to keep side to side movement down. You could build something into the mold to hold the struts in place until the resin hardens. While you're at it, why not mold in an overhead light mount?
I enjoy outside-the-box brainstorming like this (pardon the pun). Ok Teej, I bet you're lurking, where's your input?
One source for boughs would be the Can-back guy. He may have something in stock that will work for your application. Along this line of thinking, a reinforcing stip along the sides that are thick enough could accomodate rolldown canvas sides.

Have you done a drawing of your idea? I would love to see it. Google offers sketchup for free. If you are getting a full hard top, it would be cool to have the freedom panels go along the sides, and instead of the front. That way, the back passengers could enjoy the open air as well.
