Although I like the new product, I agree, it isn't like what you and others (like myself) had wanted. I would have liked to see something that covers the entire back end (instead of having the "buckets" over the wheel wells). I wanted to see something that doesn't restrict the area underneath using the side walls, just like the drawer.

Tuffy, why not use steel support bars (or strips) going across the width, utilizing the screw-down points for the hardtop? And then a couple of cross-supports between them.

EXACTLY what I'm looking for! As far as I'm concerned, Tuffy hit a home run with this design.

I stopped by Tuffy today and they showed me the prototype. Wow. What a well thought out product. Cavernous is the first word to come to mind. It's very simple, but brilliant. It looks almost twice as big as the drawer. Plus you can pull it out when you want to use the space for something else. I'm putting some serious thought into picking one of these up.

There were quite a few reasons why we didn't make just a screw on top cover. For one thing there is a pretty tight patent on that design even though they are not being produced. Second the soft top wouldn't lay down in the 2 door model. The Tuffy design also allows for a heavier load bearing on top of the unit and can be removed in seconds (two of the things that topped the list of important considerations when we originally threw this idea out there). I do understand your idea and while it is definitely viable in some form, we went a different route.

Thanks for the response, tuffy2! Interesting to know that there is/are patent(s) surrounding that type of cover for the rear....especially if it isn't being produced. That is a shame. I totally can understand what you mean about better load support, though.

With out the front bulkhead in place would the top deck piece stay put?

Would it be secure (locked) ?

Yes it would stay in place. It would be secure except the front would be open where someone could reach in from the front of the vehicle and get things out.
