I'm running 35's on the stock gear ratio (which is what by the way?) on the 6-speed standard.

Now, i haven't been off road much on the tires (2 weeks old tomorrow), and not on anything big or mean but I'm not horribly disappointed with it or anything.

My main problem is that this vehicle is my daily driver, and over the weekend i did take a cross state drive. And to be frank, my 6th gear has become worthless. Can't accelerate at all and it falls like a house of cards to the most modest of hills, this makes cruise control (also after market) far less enjoyable.

So, what gear ratio would you recommend? bearing in mind i log about 30-40 miles on her a day, so i don't wanna go too high and spend all my paychecks on gas.

Also, i've been looking at some lockers, get that done while i'm down there? And how big a hassle is city driving post rear-lockers? Would something like this bad boy be a good, albeit expensive, alternative?

The current wisdom seems to be (with 35's) 4.88 for the stick and 5.13's for the auto. The guys I know who have sticks and 4.88's love the power.

The ARB locker you linked to is THE setup and as good as you can do. If the bucks are available I'd go for it and the gears at the same time.

4.88 huh? Nice, what kind of drop in highway milage am I looking at there? 2-3 mpg?

And as far as the locker, ya I figured it was pretty nice one, are there any cheeper air lockers out there? As far as any locker goes, as my daily driver is it pretty much out of the question to go with a locker that can't disengage (unless I have a commute that never requires turning :-D ) And also, I was talking to a mechanic buddy of mine, do many people just install an aftermarket Positraction system for the rear instead of lockers? Is that feasible and if so what would be the drawbacks?

You may not see any drop in mileage. The 3.8 likes to rev and if it's up in the fat of the torque curve it's not working hard. Now keeping in mind that I have an auto I was at 18mpg, stock (32"/4.10) on the freeway. Putting 35's dropped me to 14 mpg and then going with 5.13's (best for an auto and it's OD ratio) brought me back up to 18 again.

I am a huge fan of selectable lockers. With the JK's traction control I don't see much advantage to putting a Posi in. The only advantage to a Posi is that they are cheap. As to cheaper air lockers I haven't heard of one. I'm not a fan of any of the E-lockers, inluding my factory Rubi ones. Nor am I a fan of OX lockers due to adjustment issues. For me the only real choice is the ARB. Unfortunately they are also the most expensive option.

What brand gears did you choose?

Remember that when you beef up something that much something else is going to give. Start saving up for your busted axles. They weren't designed for that much torque.

I have NOT heard ONE Jeep owner state that they had broken an axle?

Can you please share with me where this information came from so I can look into this!

Thanks

I have 4.10 with 35" tires and a superchip save your money. Get the superchip you won't be disapponted. Just because every one says get gears it's kind of lame I wonder if they really know what they are talking about.

We don't wonder if you know what you are talking about. It's obvious you don't. I'm not knocking the Superchip as it seems to be a decent product; but to equate it with gears is silly.

I broke a rear Superior CM axle and a front Alloy USA CM axle. But I was pushing it pretty hard in buggy territory and doing something few would try. I guess sometimes we have to establish some limitations!
