Default Question: Installing Windshield Lights

I am going ot install two KC Slimlights on KC windshield mounts. Has anyone used some type of gasket beween the mount and the surface. I don't want to risk scratching the surface and causing rust. If so what did you use?

The box was factory sealed with the brackets in sealed plastic...no gasket of any type...recommendations? I am considering inner tube material or something similar.

I took a calendar that is a refrigerator magnet and cut it to the right shape and put it between the brackets and the paint. It was perfect. It is a rubber-like material that has just enough softness to protect the paint, but I also believe it will possibly slightly dampen some vibration, too.
