Default Rake haters

Can anyone explain to me the "dreaded rake" thing? I for the life of me can't understand why so many hate the rake. In any 4x4 it seems. Leveling kits, etc.

With the JK I believe it is an aerodynamics thing. But I know this, if it's been "leveled", then you load it up with stuff, now it looks saggy in the back. And that to me looks stupid.

On another thread there's a discussion of how the hood lift problem at highway speed is worsened if the front is levelled. I do a lot of highway miles this is one reason I'm not going to bother spending money on levelling for the sake of levelling.

Yes, the hood flutter is worsened.
Yes, MPG is negatively affected.

I need a winch on the front to restore some rake.

That's a good point. If I ever upgraded my front bumper and got a winch then maybe the levelling kit would get the front back up a bit.

I ended up losing some rake adding my PJ rear bumper and lift. It increased the windshield header noise dramatically.

I put the RK wedges in to line up my rear springs which added a little rake back in and a lot of the wind noise went away.

By decreasing the rake, you actually improve the amount of front axle up travel. This increased articulation is important for those of us that wheel our JKs hard.

At most. It does seem pretty pointless.

rake has nothing to do with flex/articulation.
