rake has nothing to do with flex/articulation.

At the end of the day why does anyone do anything to their Jeep? Why install 35's? Why lift it? why add bumpers? Winches? etc?... because its what the owner wants to do. It looks bad ass! and... it's a Jeep thing...Do I need to say you wouldn't understand? Or do you?

My 2 cents.

Because rake reduces your break over angle... any on the 4 door, every inch counts

i would venture to say most people that want to reduce rake, is for looks only.

if someones really wheeling the 4 door, they are lifting it and not with a leveling kit,,,

It's the trend right now. Kind of like big wheels. IMO

I remember putting big snow tires on the back of my 1974 Super Beetle. They rubbed badly but I had that awesome raked drag car race look. Maybe that's what the Jeep engineers were going for!

If your front end is always pointed downhill (raked) you get better MPG from the gravitational pull!!!

This may be true. However, if someone doesn't adjust the rake because it will make the hood dance worse, that's just plain silly. The hood dance is a serious problem for all JKs that haven't taken a specific corrective action--whether you've seen it or not, whether you have the air dam or not, and whether you have messed with your rake or not. And most "fixes" don't really work 100%--including the "recall" latches, the hose under the hood and removing the spring. I've followed this particular subject extremely closely for the past two years, and I'm confident that I have witnessed/read/heard a preponderance of anecdotal data to prove all of the statements above. You can take it to the bank.

Back to the original question: Many attack the rake because when they add a heavy front bumper and winch, their Jeep really sags up front. Since that is a much more common combo than those who are replacing both bumpers and adding additional weight to the rear, you see kits that help remove at least some of the additional rake.

Some people probably just like the look of a level vehicle. My Jeep has a heavy front bumper and winch, and with the 2.5" BB it could use a leveling device. The rear is 2" higher than the front, and that's with a Rancho and a heavy 35" spare.

If you bought a Jeep you know about the rattles and the poor MPG. The more the merrier...
