So tell me this what lift and tire size are you running. It's called ground clearance and it works...

Again look at his build thread snd he already mentioned it once in here. He is building his own lift with 40s.

37s are going to provide the same amount of axle ground clearance whether on a stock jeep all the way up to a 6" lift. You're talking about belly clearance, approach and departure angle which between 2.5 and 3.5 is only 1". Hardly seems worth all the extra can of worms that a 3.5" lift could potentially introduce. IMO.

Yes and 1" can make a big difference. Right I out that there. Haha again anyways for my jku which I see your also running every bit of break over angle matters just ask my skid plates. I run the largest tires in my club with the smallest lift and I get hung up a lot more and struggle over some basic climbs even taking the same line. And it's because I snag or I don't have as much travel. Last time I went out I dropped where no one else did and ended up with my roof on the tree. Even the spotter confirmed I did everything the same. Yes a 3" or bigger opens up a can of worms but in the end a 2.5" is my biggest regret yet in my build. Maybe 3.5 will be worse but the rest of my club tend to love it. Correct the steering, get stronger and longer driveshafts and have fun.

I hear ya man. The 4dr obviously needs more height than the 2dr for breakover angle, but I think it's something you'll be fighting every time you hit the trails. As soon as you go to 3.5" you'll start trying more difficult stuff, ultimately falling into the same trap. And then you'll want a 4" and then a 5" and then 6". I just think at some point you have to find a happy medium, unless of course you have unlimited funds.

I think the 3.5 is my happy medium. Plus I want the recon coil over in the front one day which is a 3.5 minimum I don't think I'd every do more than 3.5 suspension 1.25 body.

Or you can learn how to pick a good line. Just to make a point, last year I took a new stock Rubicon X through every black and red trail at Rausch Creek. Never had to winch one time. No damage to the Jeep.

My jeep had a 2.5" lift, 37s, and 14" of travel. There isn't a trail I know of that it couldn't do - probably in reverse to.

As noted, I am now finishing up my own custom designed and built suspension. Double triangulated rear with an 8" stretch, 3 link front with a 3" stretch, 16" travel ORI struts, and a flat belly (the right way to get ground clearance).

You can do less than 3.5". Try moving the mount up. You can go 16" travel without going through the hood. Close, but fits.

Sometimes a good line isn't enough if you felt it was why do you have a lift at all.... If you're going up a shoulder or small cliff you absolutely need ground clearance. I'm not saying 6" inches is mandatory but 3.5 in my opinion is great. Yes I have to get a high steer and new driveshafts but I'll need that anyways when I get to my engine swap.

Edited to prevent trolling*

I have decided to go with 3.5" because I am going to be putting 37's on when my current ones die, but I don't know which system to get from Rock Krawler. The X Factor has replacement upper control arms while the Flex doesn't Are replacing the upper control arms important? Any thoughts in general?
I'm selling my RK 3.5 mid arm flex system, if your interested let me know.
