I have the AEV snorkel so could keep the windshield lights - I use these lights much more regularly than any others given their higher location and beam pattern, so IMO your choice boils down to do u want windshield lights ?

A Wranglers' engine bay gets quite hot. Wouldn't it be better for the battery (to name just one example), to be cooler?
I'd expect a 'cooling hood' to cool the engine bay, and not just the radiator.

The side vents, too, are placed forward, to cool the radiator only.
If they were located further back, they would have let hot air out from where it's the hottest.

When the AEV snorkel is used, one of the two side vents is plugged, countering their own design.

But that's not all. According to AEV, this 'cooling hood' works only when the Jeep is in motion. This means that the hood becomes more and more efficient the faster the speed is.
We need it the other way around... offroading is typically slower than road speeds.
When we need cooling the most -- crawling in hot weather -- this hood does nothing.
I, therefore, regard this hood as useless.

Also… do we want indentations, which collect mud or dirt, in the hardtop or the fenders?
Why have it on the hood?

Yes, water or mud is splashed under the engine. This is no reason to add yet more water or mud from above.

The lil bit coming in from the top won't make a difference, if he likes the hood he should get it, if I had the extra money I'd buy one too but I'm fine with my factory hood and saving for more suspension parts instead of a hood.

Am I wrong? It looks like $10 worth of garage scraps for $70?
I think I spent $15 on extending my breathers. I did a write-up about it.

Yea I've seen that... It's been copied and pasted all over the Internet, I did my own write up with the kit cuz I didn't wanna just stick the hoses in my tail lights and didn't feel like having the breathers hanging all over... It was much easier to run it all into my air box, Imo but great write up on the diy project! I bought a kit so it didn't help me

I'm with you on and simple clean set up. I'm just wondering if the RR install could be replicated using garage scraps instead of their kit.

Sure, but this is insignificant in view of the other issues.

I can see where you're coming from and your opinion will impact my decision to purchase or not however I haven't heard of anyone with the hood who has the problems your speaking of or who can say "don't buy it because the water and dust it collects is ridiculous"

But like I said, I will take your opinion and continue to research on it because it definitely is valid

When I'm in my jeep I'm usually in motion but I see your point.

I think what aev is saying is not that they are cooling the rad only (though this is quite important) but it is saying it is sucking cold air through the rad to the already low pressure area that was designed to keep the wrangler cool...that's just how I read that but if I'm wrong hey I'm wrong.

And I understand your point about the snorkel using a vent but isn't the AEV snorkel going to let some cold air in anyways?

It's gonna suck the aire directly into ur intake, the snorkel will fill that hole up pretty good on the side though but air will still get it
