Why does everyone want a short-throw shifter in their JK? It's a Jeep. And yes, I had short-throw shifters and weighted shift-rods in all my VW's; but, they were performance-oriented. Also, at least with the shift-linkage VW's, only the top row or bottom row of gears had the throw shortened; so, there's a trade-off.

Pretty well summed up. As slow at that motor comes off of revs, a short shift is not going to help much. But to have a better method to find reverse would sure make my wife a happy camper.

A short shift won't help that.

Default short Shifter

I may get some controversy with this question but here it goes:

Has anyone heard about a short shift kit being developed for the JK's?
Or is anyone even interested in one?

I know this is an old thread that I dug up here, but I was at the stealership and the service manager mentioned to me once he noticed I had a manual trans and told me that they have one for around 125.

i was under the impression that you could only use a short shift kit when there is linkage involved. i believe our trannies have a direct input with no linkage ( hence the shakiness of the shifter )..

Just cut off your shifter until the ball is even with the boot. There's your "short"-shifter.

Or did i misunderstand? lol

Default If you dont want a short throw shifter

then dont get one.

I want one though, probably have to make it myself.

I've been off road racing in Japan for years and once I put the shifter in it was night and day difference.

It doesnt make it faster, it doesnt affect off road performance - all it does is take the slop out of shifting, after all its a jeep wrangler not a mack truck
