Skid Plates
yeah, it can get beat up pretty good but more than the cross member, it's mounts to the frame rails are what i would really be concerned with. i have already had to weld up good size cracks in the flanges twice - once before installing a long arm kit and once after replacing the cross member with the one that comes with the full traction long arm kit. i should note that while the new full traction cross member is super beefy, it's almost too much so and without any reinforcment to the frame rail mounts, it'll take a beating but will still get torn off. BTW, i have since welded on gussets to help support the mounts.

I have yet to have the flanges crack, but I dont wheel as often or hard as you guys in socal. Hard enough to destroy the stocker cross member however.'
I just cant imagine having a long arm kit that uses the stock cross member as support.:
Definitely wanted more protection for the Atlas.
I think the skids the OP is talking about are the Treks with the boat sliders.
he's refering to the t-case skid and not tranny. he has an atlas t-case and you cannot use the factory skid with it as it is so big. most people with an atlas just leave the skid off but, i could see wanting a skid here and this would be an instance where an aftermarket skid is a good idea.
