I have a River Raider snorkel and LOVE it!

Well, I have used my snorkel plenty of times and it has never failed me! I love my snorkel like there's no tomorrow. It has seen the abuse of huge tree limbs smacking into it hard. I thought it'd rip the snorkel right off or puncture it because I have hit huge thick jagged tree limbs(like 6"+ diameter) with my snorkel on the trail. And yet the snorkel has barely a mark on it and no dents!!!!!! It is built tough, does it's job, and looks great all at the same time. The guys at River Raider are great guys too. I can't recomend them and their snorkel enough!

You can see the snorkel in the pic above, or some of my pictures in my signature.

I like the AEV for the fact that you can use a stock air box if you want to while not wheeling. Now if they EVER release the ram air I will get one. The Coleman lantern look is a little wierd IMO.

I'll try and sum up my .02 and my decision making process when I bought mine.

RR-Great design, very well made, can get it painted or coated or bare. The problem I had with the RR is that it has no way for water to drain that may have gotten into the snorkel. I contacted RR and they said some people put a drain cock on the bottom. Lastly the RR is quite expensive.

AEV-Prefilter design is very nice for dusty conditions. It's far cheaper. AEV is all top quality products.

Both you have to cut something and either one will work. My deciding factor is the RR didn't have anyplace for water to drain. So I chose AEV.

Ummm....there IS a place for water to drain? The stock airbox has small "holes" in the bottom of it. I filled them with silicone, but surely a small poke through with a paperclip would allow the water that never gets in anyway to drain out. And you don't even have to plug them with silicone like I did.

Never had an issue with water getting in, even in torrential downpours(both highway and stationary) to huge mud splashes/waves. And even if I took a cup of water and purposely poured it down the snorkel, I could drain it like I stated above. And it would drain for you if I didn't plug them like I did.

I have an AEV. Functionally it is very good and IMO it looks way better than the River something.

I'm sure lots of people haven't gotten water in and that's fine, but others have. Keeping holes in the airbox defeats the purpose of having a snorkel. You want a water tight seal everywhere except the top of the snorkel.

There is a built in drain (water separator) where the snorkel connects with the either the prefilter, of ram air so if you get rain or snow in through the snorkel it will just drain out. It should never make it to the airbox.

Look into Safari snorkels as well mate. They have a pretty good reputation for what they do - providing a damn fine snorkel that is practical.
