Snorkel question
Yes, it is another form of a cold air intake, better if you ask me. It pulls the cool air from outside of the vehicle. It is not under the hood with the rest of the hot components from the vehicle running. Snorkles do benefit you in dusty conditions as well as water.

I hydrolocked my JK going through probably 18" of water with the factory intake... I had it in water easily twice that deep on a number of occasions, and never a problem. Very unlucky splash I guess.
I was extremely lucky to have my insurance pay for it, but I'm also now sporting an AEV snorkel with the sand collector thing on top. I like the look of it, and the $300 and change that it cost is about $200 less than even just the deductible for the new engine
so you can look at it that way.
I do not think there is a performance benefit from this mod -- if anything it probably detracts a little bit, but nothing really noticeable. It does make a cool sound when you have the pedal down when merging on to the highway though
I would be terrified to run a CAI in any amount of water... but maybe that's just me...

So far I found that AEV makes a snorkel and River Raider. Has anyone checked out this snorkel I found online. It's made in Australia. I like it because it's not square like the River Raider and it's not big like the AEV. I just wish I knew if it would plug up to the RIPP supercharger?

has anyone looked into whether or not a snorkel from another vehicle would work w/ a few adjustments? like say a TJ or Commander or something? that might be a cheaper alternative. also ive seen lots of guys with XJ's that have fabricated their own. some looked good others were hideous. it all depends on the time, effort, and $$ you put into it i guess. just some food for thought.
I would say AEV if your looking to get a snorkle.
Personally like the way the AEV looks (not knocking the RR, just my opinion) but what really sells me is that if you do need to cut (as in not having the AEV hood), your only cutting into the hood. I dont like how the RR cuts into the body panels. Plus the AEV is cheaper. $350
