Default And so it begins.... Newbie just got a stock 2007 Sahara Unlimited 4DR looking 4 help

Hey everyone,
I’m a brand new Jeep owner! I got my hands on a 2007 Sahara Unlimited 4 door, with 104K (yes, 104,000!) miles. I got such a great deal on it, I’m investing in a 4 year 75K used car warranty for peace of mind!

OK, now for the fun part… Mods!!
I’m going to be honest and say that I’ll spend most time on the streets, but plan on doing some minor off-roading while at a my hunting property. What I’m looking for is to beef up the current wheels/tires that I have with something better but I’d like to do so without have to modify the suspension (lifts, spacers, etc.). Right now I have the 255/70R18’s.

So I’ve read on the FAQ’s the following:
Q: What is the biggest size tire I can fit on my stock Jeep JK Wrangler?
A: The largest tire size that the factory recommends is a 255/75R17 (which comes standard on Rubicon models) or a 32x10.50. However, there are many Jeep JK Wrangler owners who are currently running as big as 285/70R17 or 33x10.50's with little to no rubbing issues.

So I’m trying to figure out what I can do. I really like the Nitto Terra Grappler AT P285/70R-17’s, and I’m trying to figure out if I got them, what size wheels (including backspacing, etc.) that I’d need to make them work.
I’m open to others opinions on a better tire/wheel packages but again my goal is to stay with my stock suspension. If you have suggestions and/or pics of set ups that may fit the bill please let me know and thanks for your time.
Any other ideas/pics of mod’s that I can make that will improve the “street” look are appreciated as well. Bear with me as I’m new to the JK world… I used to have a CJ 10 years ago...

Lastly, I’d like to thank everyone on this site for their knowledge, experience and expertise. I’ve logged a lot of time on the site over the past month or so and I’ve learned a ton about JK’s. I’m excited about my new toy and hearing everyone’s experiences and input helps me look forward to what is to come.

there are several threads on max tire size on a stock Jk if you search the forum. i'm in the same boat as you, and want more rubber to compliment my lift. i've come to the conclusion that ditching the stock rims and going down to a 16 or 17 will save me some a$$ pain and money in the long run. running a bigger tire on the stock 18s you can run into rub problems due to the offset.

again, i'm by far no expert and there is plenty of experience for you to call upon if you run into a snag.

good luck,

Great, welcome to the Jeep Family,

How much did you get your Jk for?? I would get 35 inch tires right off the bat. I bought 32s for my 4 dr White X Soft Top, but when they wear out, im thinking about 35s.

I was a newb back last summer but now I think i've got good building blocks to some what know what i'm talking about...you'll get there. And i'm only 20 years old. Hell ya, my dad's a huge hunter he used to go out to Africa and what not. You're a good guy I can tell already. My main suggestion is read and talk to as many people as you can about parts youre thinking about getting...you'll annoy them and they'll begin to hate you but it's your money so spend it right. Also make sure you don't half ass it on cheap substitutes...do things the right way first. Goodluck brother and welcome to the family...a very weird family.

If you are driving it mainly on the street you may not want to go over board with the modifications. I say drive it and if you find that you need more performance, such as clearance then you can address that as needed. I now my mother-in-law can’t get in to my JK because of the height. See I solved my problem by lifting it.

Default Some additional help

OK,

I know there are other threads out there that cover this topic, but I just can't seem to get a straight up on answer or I'm not looking at the right thread I guess.

If any of you can point me to a thread, or send pics and descriptions of peeps running a stock suspension with 33's.... I'd appreciate it.

Thanks to everyone for their support!
