if you read the comments below the write-up, someone asked the same question. His answer, in short, he never had an issue with the RTV.

i have always used RTV and think it works just fine. however, i just found out about "the right stuff" by permatex and can tell you that it's way better:



you can get it at places like napa and other parts stores.

what i love about the right stuff is that you can install your cover, pour gear oil in it and go just like a standard gasket like lube locker makes. however, what makes it better is that it has the best and strongest seal available, period. unlike conventional RTV or standard gasket, catch a lip on the rocks with this on and you won't be getting any leaks. however, because of this, it can be a real bear to separate your cover from the diff if you ever need to get in it in the future. but, for my purposes, that's fine by me

of course, if you're the kind of guy that's looking for an easy install, lube locker is what i would recommend and you can get them at northridge4x4.

ordered mine as well then turned around and ordered lube lockers from dave

just couldnt beat that deal, you'd be crazy not to get em
