Default A Solution For Hood Shake

Ok, we've all seen our hood bounce around on the interstate because the hood latches can't hold it firmly in place. Nothing we can do except put the Daystar latches on there to try and help it, although I have noticed that after I replaced my hood with another factory hood it doesn't shake anywhere near as much.

Anyway, here's my solution. Hinge the hood at the front and latch it at the back. I know a lot of guys are going to say that it's a knock off of the HMMWV but it works. Besides, they don't even sell the H1 anymore and Hummer is about to be extinct.

Only downside is that it could interfere with some of the grill guards and such that attach to the front.

Removing the hood spring eliminates the bounce.

Didn't work with mine. Didn't really make any difference at all.

I removed the spring on mine and it worked. Then I read about the 09 recall on the latches. I have an 08 but I picked up the 09 recall latches and it worked great even after putting the spring back on.

Some folks have removed the spring and it didn't work for them. Some folks have tried the recall hood latches and it didn't work for them. I've never seen anyone say that the Daystar latches didn't work, but there are comments about how difficult they are to open and close. Here's the cheapest mod I know of, and it works (use 11" versions):

Had hood flutter and took the spring off over a year ago. Hasn't budged since. Best and most cost effective solution I've seen yet.

I think they were about $15.00. The dealer should have them in stock.
