Wouldn't those go on the inside of the tailgate right behind the stock carrier. It would still only be going through 1 sheet of metal correct?? Looks like it'd be a PIA to get them in there, if that's the case

It works kind of like laying on a bed of nails...If the only point of contact to the sheet metal is the bolt hole location, that becomes a stress point. If the point of contact surface area is increased, durability and stress levels are greater. We have been running our 35's without any issue what so ever.

The brackets are simple to install through the removable plastic piece behind the factory tire carrier. It's a 20 minute install...

Very interesting solution.
When we got our Jeep it came with a 35" spare mounted to the stock tire carrier with a spider trax 1.5" spacer.
It rattled really badly. Sounded like the entire tailgate was going to tear off at any moment.

We downsized to a 33" tire (all around), and it still rattled bad over bumps.

Does this mean that our tailgate is bent and anything over stock will make lots of noise and eventually cause it to fail?

Is there any point in buying your kit for our Jeep now?
or
Would we just be better off cutting our losses and buying a tire carrier /bumper?

Thanks!

Depending on where the rattle is coming from, our reinforcement kit may still solve your problem. If the bolts are simply loose or wearing out the holes, I think these brackets would help...If you have damage to the hinges from excessive movement you may have bigger problems. We do wheel our JK with the 35, and also put thousands of highway miles on it and the 35 is silent.

If you can find out whats rattling you may have a simple solution here...

Here are some images:

Do you have a part # for the tail gate reinforcement kit?

looks like I'll be picking up a set of those reinforcements...since my 33's are in the garage waiting to be put on and I don't have any loot for a rear bumper at the moment.

I hope these work, prior to joining the forum I ordered these and the Daystar tailgate bump stops, I will take pics when installing.

Just finished installing the reinforcement brackets.

Install was not to bad, provided instructions were very clear and easy to follow, but those bolts you remove were a real PITA, I accidentally broke the bolt in the last nut I was removing, then proceeded to shout out a few words my roommates apparently have not heard before. After some work i was finally able to get it out with a pair of needle nose.

But overall it does seem to provide more support on the backside of the carrier. I'll give it the 35" tire test later this week when they arrive

It's not my longterm solution, but should provide the much needed support until I can save up enough to get the bumper i'm after.
