Its unlikely but possible. I remember a young kid on this site wheeled his Jeep like a moron, skipped a gear and ended up with a steering wheel off 180*. I've also seen it happen in my dad's old ram 2500. Hit a curb and the wheel was completely upside down. Still had full lock to lock steering, but the wheel was off.

Correct. It may have skipped a gear but seem to handle steering fine. Also side note when using my directional and returning to center after a left turn it does not auto shut off

Where is the sensor located that triggers the esp/bas light when you steering wheels off? If its in the wheel wich is where id think itd be it makes no sense. If its in the box and it skipped a gear thatd make sense.

There is a position sensor in the column. The sensors in the wheels are just the wheel speed sensors.

No. The steering wheel isn't going to slip in its splines.

You may have a pre existing electronic malfunction. I don't know what that would be. There isn't a ton to the Jeeps systems. There is a small brain in the column as well. Then there is the accelerometer/yaw sensor under the center console that feeds information to every system, including the airbag system.the wheel speed sensors, the steering wheel position sensor. Think that's about it.

I think at this point, you KNOW you have a mechanical issue. I'd stay focused on that. Worry about the electronics later.

Maybe you could measure your toe at the tires? Or at the rims? Might tell you if you bent a knuckle or a C or anything in there that's not your DOM tubes and such.

I'm still having a really hard time with the skipped gear idea. I'd check and measure absolutely everything I could think of before I even contemplated tearing down the steering box. Lot of work for a real long shot.

My toe to the outside of the tires is exactly what it was prior to the hit. 1/8 toe out.
