And then you have the cost factor. I could buy a 454 for less than a 3.8 so that's another divot in that comparison. And even when referring to the cost of upgrades, I could re-cam or upgrade heads or intake manifolds or headers etc etc on a big v8 for less than it costs for a CAI/tuner setup for a 3.8 motor jeep. The only reason people can claim a 7-10% gain is because the initial hp number is so low.

Not saying its not a good upgrade, as I stated in my post, I do indeed like it. But, some posts on this forum could be causing people to have unreal expectations from that product. It has it's pluses but also has its draw backs.

And yes, I am aware gears do not provide hp, I never said that. They were a more noticeable mod as far as compensation for larger/heavier wheels and tires. Dollar for hp, I would advise someone who is looking for the most power they can get out of their 3.8 safely, to look into a ripp stage 2 kit. And it comes with a tuner.
It's about $5k for a new BBC long block, without an intake manifold, carburetor, distributor, water pump, flex plate or fly wheel. A cam and lifter kit that you can adequately use on a stock long block is about $600 and nets you about 20hp. Want more and then you need to start addressing other mechanicals. A low end set of assembled heads starts at a grand. You can build a lot of power into these motors, but it doesn't come cheap. Meanwhile for $300 you can bump the hp on a 3.8L by nearly 10% and to get 10% more hp out of a stock 375hp BBC you'd be spending a hell of a lot more.

Cost/Value

Flashpaq $300 / 20hp = $15 per hp

RIPP $4000 / 125hp = $32 per hp

Horsepower doesn't come cheap.

According to the dyno charts that I saw from Superchips, you only gain 3 ft/lbs of torque when going from 87 tune to 91 tune.
That was read with a 6 speed manual on the dyno.

A chart of the 93 tune was not available.

I noticed a big difference in throttle response and overall improvement with 87 tune compared to stock. Plus, I like the other tools that the flashpaq offers. For me, it was worth the money.

Run it on 91, the extra $1 at the pump every refuel is worth the extra power you get

I thought new tires was money well spent, until I got the Superchips!!! Mass improvement! Did the 87 tune, didnt mess with anything else and it is very very noticable! Dnt have to shut of OD out on the highway, doesnt lose speed on slight inclines and just makes the JEEP very easy to drive. Money well spent!

Nope, not gonna start a pissin contest, you're just wrong. Your post count doesn't make you smart, just an Internet dweeb. Get some real world experience instead of surfing forums. Moron.

I run the 87 tune on mine works awesome especially with larger tires. I had the 35s with out the tune for 2 days I thought I was driving a train. but because of the shift points it makes the ride much smoother trying to get on the highway (for the 3 miles i need to get to work). Also w/ the K&N CAI it made a world of difference as stated before by a couple of other people. I didnt get it for HP or torque gain I purchased it to be able to ajust the speedo and to calibrate for mods ie: tires, gears, ect.
