hey guys. am i wrong, but the problem isnt the mount, right? it is the tailgate hinges that eventually start to bend and warp.

You're right. It's just that this one claims you can have up to 200lbs back there and I'm wondering why. Which carriers besides the AEV swings with the tailgate?

It's also the weight bouncing on the pathetic jk sheetmetal. It pops the spot welds apart and the tailgate gets destroyed.

Heavy tires have cracked the factory mounts as well.

New 3rd gen LOD is synced to the tailgate.

My hinges wore out but took 3yrs 100,000 miles and new ones only cost $150 total with a 20min install and i did install the plates. Tire carriers are annoying ill just swap in new hingescevery 3 yrs no biggie.

Was there any welding required? What size tire were you running? If its only $150 for new hinges every few years vs potentially over $1000 for a bumper and carrier that sounds great. Could someone with limited fabrication abilities (like me) do this?

Lol I dont mean to bring this thread back from the dead. But Gordhunt is my Brother and I bought his jeep last year. The hinges are easy to replace. Just unbolt and replace. But I hate the factory spare tire carrier. It now has an OR Fab and its awesome! I never have to worry about hinges or bending tailgates again. Plus I can carry my high lift and gas cans.
