hey whatever it's called so be it. Run it without a muffler and see how it reacts. To answer the OP questions, yes it is probably illegal to run without a muffler if you have smog inspections. Will you damage any componants running without a muffler. Most likely not.

I've run without a muffler for a couple weeks. No engine lights or anything. I loved the clearance. Sound got to be annoying at speed but at idle and low rpms it sounded great. Go for it if u like it. Noticed a slight decrease in mpg, not much.

It will probably be the worst sounding engine ever, and lack even more torque (yes, thats possible)

Can't find anything on motor vehicle law and mufflers, but mufflers are required in NC for motorcycles - both on and off road - so I can't imagine its legal to operate a Jeep in NC on-road without one.

Not judging, do what you like, just make sure you COAST past Johnny Law!

I ran with out the muffler for 2 months and had a loss of torque, butt dyno, noticeable both on and off road. I ended up putting the stock one back on, too many other things to spend money on right now.

Not sure why you guys want your jeeps to be so loud. Maybe Im getting old. I just got back from my yearly Colorado vacation and I could sneak up on wildlife in my jeep and get a very close look. If I ran around sounding like a farting eliphant then Id see nothing on the trail.

I guess different strokes.... I do like my race car loud though. Its supposed to be. A Jeep loud? I guess thats debatable.

It will probably be one of those things where I put it back on when i go trail riding, or something...I was just bored yesterday and decided to try something different. Guess we will see how long it last.
