Default Mufflerless...

The biggest problem with running no muffler is that you can burn up a valve, but since the pipe has a cat you should be alright, but seriously to combat that drone when you are driving you should get a less restrictive muffler, magnaflows on ebay are only like $60. Just a thought, and you can get the sive that matches your pipe and put it in place about a foot behind where the two pipes come into one under the driver. Just run a piece of pipe back from the muffler exit because most states require the pipe to pass the rear door of the vehicle, i.e. the 1997 F-150. Or maybe I'm just a newbie...

Maybe it's just me, but a six-banger on open pipes reminds me of the saying "all bark and no bite". It may sound mean (or not), but it's still a minivan engine. It's like when the four-banger ricers put their coffee cans on for mufflers - sounds "different", but definitely doesn't sound like power to me. Maybe I'm just old school.

2 cents.

I removed mine...replaced it under rear pax seat with a turbo muffler...tucked up so not as likely to tear it up in the rocks plus hidden from eyes...used stock pipe over the axle ...recut tail pipe straight back....sounds deeper...but looks much cleaner from the rear view...done about 6 months ago...no probs.

I have been running no muffler for 6 months with zero problems. I actually found the engine revs up quicker...and anyone who has removed the stock muffler knows it weighs a lot and creates a major hang up offroad. Having a 6spd probably helps with the drone because you can keep you rpm down very easliy on the hwy.
